  1. i couldnt agree more thanks for all the comments, think ill adjust the stops over the weekend and see how i get on cheers martin
  2. just fitted my new wheels and tyres and im very happy with them , they are 35/12.50/16 creepy crawlers on 8x16 mods, my dilema is when on full lock they rub the radius arms like i thought they would, so do i just adjust the lock stops and put up with it or do i fit spacers? i dont mind putting spacers on but i dont really want the tyres sticking out any further than they do and will fiting spacers cause problems catching on the arches ? look forward to your comments martin
  3. think ive got there catalouge somewhere, i'll take a look thanks
  4. im after one of those nets that clip onto the bonnet for my 90 so i can chuck the winch rope and strops under it, anyone know where to get one? thanks in advance martin
  5. why not just put it where the origional one goes behind the seats on the bulkhead? thats where mine is, its out of the way but there when you need it, (obviously you can only do this with a 4 foot version)
  6. sorry i got a bit carried away, wierd thing is though i think you may know my brother as well
  7. ah i see now, i was thinking they were being used for sealing something, thanks for that its been a great help, be good to see your wheels with some creepies fitted
  8. richard, thanks for your help, i work at a boatyard in poole that you have been to a few times, we pdc your boats , i dont think we have not been properly introduced but i think you might know my brother who is the parts manager, thanks for the info on the beadlocks, did you weld them on yourself? was it easy enough to do? and are you running tubes? sorry for all the questions i like your build by the way rhys, thanks for your advice, what are the fibre belts for exactly? also same as i said to richard, did you weld them yourself and are you running tubes? do the inner rings fit inside the lip of the wheel to get them central or do you have to try and centre it yourself? thanks to everyone for all the help so far cheers martin
  9. thanks, where did you get you beadlocks from? you say they bulged, what would happen if i was to run them like this? ps, i think we have met to, not through landrovers but through work
  10. so back to the origional question, can i fit 12.5 inch tyres to my 7 inch rims, i dont really want to buy new wheels but will if i have to, or maybe fitting a diy beadlock kit would be cheaper, any ideas?
  11. yeah thats me where did you buy your creepies from then?
  12. i must have seen you around then, i live round the corner from martin (bullfrog) and go to matchams to, ill introduce myself next time im up there, im also a member of shire and sadlrc, look forward to seeing the d lander when its done, back on topic what do you think of the creepy crawlers then? i know you prob not driven on them but do they look like they will do the business?
  13. i dont recognise your 90 in your avatar but i have prob seen you around, are you a member of any local clubs? nice work on the d lander by the way
  14. im looking into getting some of the maxxis creepy crawler tyres for my 90, can the 35/12.5/16 be fitted to my 7x16 modular wheels or do i have to get bigger wheels? thanks martin
  15. i have a detriot fitted on my 90 and i think its great, yes you do get some understeer mainly noticed when driving offroad but also on road you can feel it at times, but if you take your foot off the throttle then its fine and goes round corners just the same as a normal open diff, the other down side is side slopes, the back end tends to slide down when on a side slope, but maybe this is just down to my tyres, to be honest you dont know that its there after a while as you tend to adapt your driving style to suit, (i believe you would have to do this with an arb as well), there is no clunk or bang when it engages as its permenantly locked, you do here it clicking when going round corners though as it has a sort of freewheel device, the difference after i installed it was very noticable and one of the best single modifications i have done to my 90, im not saying its as good as an arb but it is half the price, as for instalation i thought it was quite simple and if you are mechanically minded then you should be able to do this yourself no problem, make sure you have the instructions and correct tools available though (dti guage etc) and make sure the diff your fitting it into is a good one to start with so you dont have to shim the input gear. oh and i think £400 is a bit steep, you can get them new for less than that. martin
  16. im looking at getting some new tyres for my 90, is anyone using these or know if they are any good? they are being sold by silverline 4x4, the tread looks very similar to the bfg mud terrain, i will be using them mainly for play days, thanks martin
  17. thanks for that nige, thats what i was trying to say basically i dont see how its possible but thought i had heard it was, you have just clarified what i already thought, i think it would have been helpfull to be able to sometimes, maybe not when stuck as such but say like trying to get the wheels to drive up a bank or over a log or something where just winching is pulling you into an obstacle rather than over it, but im sure i'll manage without, thanks again martin
  18. ok thanks guys, looks like i'll be making a bracket then martin
  19. thanks very much for that lyndon, very helpfull indeed, its actually on a v8 but 4th is still 1:1 so i used this as it makes it easier to know what speed the pump is running at a quick glance of the tacho, the only thing im not sure about now and this is slightly changing the subject but how do i drive assist? i know i shouldnt need to most of the time but if i need to just turn the wheels to help them climb over an obstacle then im not sure how its going to work, i know some people say you can and some say you cant drive assist but im struggling to figure it out, here is what im thinking but hopefully you will be able to put me straight, to drive assist i need to be in first gear to get the wheel turning as slow as poss but now the winch is turning extremely slowly and if i use 4th to get the winch speed up then the wheels will be turning to fast and by slipping the clutch this will slow the pump as well so no benefit there either, any suggestions? thanks martin
  20. yeah i did think of that, the only thing i was concerned about was any mud getting into the switch, if it was to screw into the housing like i hope it will then this wont be a problem, if not then an external switch like you described will get fitted thanks martin
  21. that would be great, thanks very much martin
  22. as the title says really, i have a superwinch hydraulic pto and would like to fit a switch to it so i can have a light on the dash to tell me when its engaged, i notice there is a bolt in the top of the housing where the actuator plunger goes through, is this just for a detent spring or can i fit a switch here? thanks martin
  23. well what can i say, i went out yesterday and used the setup for the first time and its unbelievable how much difference it has made, i am very pleased with the result and it has been well worth all the effort, i have set the prv to 1800psi for now to keep well within limits and will see how it performs over a few outings, the only real problem i had was oil coming out of the tank breather when going up a rather steep slope so will have to extend the breather, thanks again for all your help and advice and im sure it wont be long before i need it again cheers martin
  24. thanks chaps, looks like i was close with my figures then, ive now fitted 1/2 inch pipe work all the way through and a half inch spool with a flow rate of 75 liters a min, i couldnt find any info on the pressure drop fot it though, TO LYNDON, i wonder if your info gives the max rpm for the pump that i have, if so i would be very interested to know, thanks again thanks for all your replys and info it been very very helpfull, im off out tomorow to give it a try so will let you know how i get on, martin
