  1. I have recently put a 200 Tdi in my 90 (from a 1992 RRC). I'm trying to change the log book, but where the engine number should be, it states the following: RECON 94 Any ideas?
  2. I had Recaro's out of a Rover, but as crwoody (who seems to be on the same forums as me ) says, they are a pain to get in and out of, although very comfortable. Only problem you do have is getting to the battery, but there are quite a few options for that one. If you do go with the conversion and fancy selling the Landy seats let me know, as my standard seats are now torn to shreads!
  3. I wouldn't mind knowing this too. Mine also stays on (I've taken the bulb out of the dash for the time being).
  4. Think I'm sorted now. I've got a welder! Thanks for your replies everyone
  5. Hi John, If I don't get any offers closer to home, I'll probably take you up on it! I'll keep you posted - Thanks
  6. Ok...so back to welding it is then!...there must be someone who could give me a hand
  7. Can you pop rivet it? I didn't realise. Just with it bolting to the chassis I thought it had to be welded!
  8. Not sure if I've posted this in the right area, but as above, I have an hole in my passenger side footwell (see pics below) I have a replacement footwell (which can be cut up to suit). I also have a MIG welder a mate has lent me, I just need an operator . I also have a grinder, but lost the spanner thing I have never welded before otherwise I'd do it myself, but MOT is looming ...admittedly, I do need to teach myself soon, just not quite yet. I will pay beer tokens etc...I'm just off Junc 27 of the M1. Oh, there MIGHT also be some work in the battery box area as well, but I'm trying to get a panel fabricated up as I'm on a tight budget. (If it's done on a Saturday as well there will be a free supply of bacon cobs ) Apply within Thanks
  9. Fair enough... I use my Defender for the following: 1) Everyday traveling to work. 2) Odd bit of green laning...most extreme would be Stanage Edge 3) Towing a trailer to shows and through muddy fields. Would I benefit? Is this an engine out job? As the engine has only just gone in! lol. If someone could point me in the right direction of any "how to's" that would be great...I'll do a search in the meantime Ta,
  10. Is the viscous unit better than having the typical manual selection of diff lock...or is it swings and roundabouts? That Ashcroft site is very informative!
  11. Thanks Snagger...much appreciated. Does anyone have a photo of a BW Transfer box, so I can make sure it matches up ok? So technically, I won't be able to select diff lock, but the viscous unit will technically engage it automatically? I'm a novice when it comes to gear/transfer boxes etc. Thanks,
  12. Hi all, I have a LT77 Gearbox and Transfer box (unknown model as I can't find a number on it as I don't know where to look!) sat in my garage that no one wants to buy from a RRC 200tdi. I have been browsing this forum and noticed you can swap the Defender's existing transfer box for a Disco transfer box to improve top end speed / make it quieter! Can I do this with the transfer box that I have? I also have worked out there maybe an issue with diff lock and possibly the handbrake fitment? Please can someone advise, as currently I'm sat here scratching my head. Thanks
  13. Hi, I have a Gearbox and Transfer box from a 200tdi RRC Vogue SE. The car was a 92 K Reg. Basically, how do I know what gearbox/transfer it actually is? I know it is a manual and I suspect it's a LT77, but unsure. Are there any markings on the boxes?...I've had a quick look, but nothing that says LT** or R***. To select reverse it is over to the left and up. Any help would be great, as I'm sticking it up for sale. Thanks, W.
  14. Hi, I have used a rotten RRC 200tdi for an engine swap into my Defender. Conversion is now complete and the RR is stripped of everything that is/was salvagable. I've got to the point, where I need it scrapping, however I have a couple of issues that you guys might be able to help me with... I need the car to be gone this Weekend (Parents are moaning at me...whoops), but I've never scrapped a vehicle in my life. Do I phone Scrap Metal Merchants up or do I need to speak to Car Dismantlers (even through there is literally nothing left to dismantle from the car - apart from possibly two axles, door(s) etc)? Once I have worked which sort of guys I need to speak to, my next issue arises...I don't have a trailer to get it there...Does anyone on here know of anyone where I could borrow/rent a trailer from/anyone with a free Saturday willing to help me tow it away? Anyone want to buy it infact? :s I know it's a big ask, but thought it might be worth a shot... Thanks, L p.s. I'm in Notts/Derbys.
  15. Hi Paul, I had a similar problem with my 19J...It turned out that I needed a new fuel pipe as the compressed washer part of the pipe had been over tightened (not be me-honest!) and was letting air in. I also replaced the Lift Pump at the same time as I was only getting drips of fuel at the injectors. Worked fine since. A Lift Pump is only a few quid from Paddocks/Tonks. Where abouts are you in Mansfield? I'm just off Junc 27... Cheers, Liam
  16. Ok...I've put an Offer in anyway, just gotta wait to see if it gets accepted or not. Thanks again for your help everyone...even though you have slightly confused me even more haha Cheers,
  17. You can pick a Disc braked Disco axle up for less than £100 on eBay. This is what I am doing in order for me to fit some alloys and have better braking capability. Well worth it in my opinion. On the other hand I think you can opt for spacers, but they are £100+, so you might as well do it properly and install a disc braked axle.
  18. Hi, While swapping my old 19J for a 200tdi, I have been advised to swap the rear axle for a disc brake version. Been browsing on ebay and have come across a 300 tdi rear axle, which has new discs, calipers and pads. My question is, are 200 tdi axles the same as 300 tdi ones? This one states that it is 24 spline, which makes no sense to me whatsoever Something about being more heavy duty? Ta, p.s. I did a search, but to no avail
  19. Thanks. Have taken the Part No.'s down. I'm going to Paddocks on Tuesday for a few bits for my new 200 tdi engine, so hopefully they will have these in stock too. Cheers, Liam
  20. Thanks Western for that. I'm glad I don't have to replace my door! The links however show the full length of the cappings. I'm assuming you can't buy the little "L" shaped parts (highlighted between the yellow marks on my photo below). I was hoping to purchase these separatley.
  21. Hi, Having spent the last Year or so umming and ahhing over the rust on the rear of my Defender, I have now decided to take action (mainly inspired by the How To Replace Cappings Thread). To be perfectly honest, I didn't realise that the Cappings were a separate panel. I thought it was part of the rear tub as such (hence why I have left it. ) Anyway, I have taken a couple of photos of my Land Rover of the suspect areas. As you can see, the majority of the capping (the straight part anyway) is in A1 condition. The only rusty parts are the corner/angle cappings. Can you buy these separatley? Because on the other thread, the cappings seemed welded together? I would be after some galavnised cappings, (approx. price?), so if anyone could point me in the right direction, that would be much appreciated. Not sure if they are sometimes called "flashings" as well? Second Question - Rear Door: My Rear Door is also becoming rusty. I've had a look on fleebay for a new door, but I'm not willing to pay £100 plus for a door due to a tiny bit of rust. Is there anyway I can repair mine, so it doesn't come back? The rust is small'ish, but just ruins the look of the Landy. Photo below: Third and Final Question (Sorry): Wheels and Tyres. I currently run standard Steels with YKS's on rear and Colway's on front (235/85/R16). To be perfectly honest, I'm not too impressed/confident in them. I've been toying with the idea of Boost alloys with BFG's All Terrain hopefully to improve the handling. Would Genral Grabbers still do the job? What size tyres also? Are these the best combo for road/motorway driving, with the odd Green Lane and towing across wet/muddy fields? Sorry for all of the questions . Thanks, Liam
  22. Thank you very much for your help. Will contact the Seller to see if they have any of those numbers. Thanks
  23. I've come across some alloys for my Landy, but unsure of their type. I believe they are genuine Land Rover Wheels... Can anyone shed any light? Cheers
  24. Hi, I have a '89 90 with a Sunroof (that leaks in the Winter). I have been toying with the idea of getting a new roof without an aperture for a Sunroof, cos everyone is fed up of it leaking, especially when the temp. is below 0. However, I've just had a thought...go steady you might say, but, I have a RRC Vogue SE sat on my drive that I am currently breaking and obviously it has an electric sunroof that works! My question is, do you think I could put this in the 90? I'm assuming it is the same size and everything and it shouldn't leak, plus it is electric (my mate is an electrician...should be pretty simple to wire up?)! Your thoughts please...anyone done this already? Not too sure how it would work with my headlining, but I'll get to that hurdle later... Thanks
  25. Fair enough. I'm hoping mine is one of the "5 in 6". I'll soon find out. Ordered one anyway. Just awaiting delivery. How soon do you think I will get it? I'm itching to get started on it!
