    Shocking

Cos the nice man said its best to measure them in their relaxed unladen but in situ state (yikes sounds like a trip to the pychiatrist) which would mean re-instating them onto the vehicle and frankly they are that old (And combined with the newly fitted parabolics) I reckon I wouldnt get an accurate reading.........The hole deepens....My bad !

Thanks Al, the question was straight forward in my mind too, but hear goes an explanation for what its worth....The original shocks were off the series and a pal unknowingly supplied me with a set from a 109 but they are too short, as we are in short supply of landy parts dealerships here and i needed them for a outing the weekend (which ruled out having them posted from BLRC in time) I contacted a few Fast Fit/Advance type garages toi see if they would have an after market type shock, but the nice man said that he would need a size/length of the original cos he wasnt going to open 50 f&*king boxes to compare sizes.................So hence my question..........Times a pushing, i may have to re- the originals and buy through the post...............Thanks for listening...Mike

  12. Hi guys, toying around with the idea of squeezing a v8 3.5 twin carb into a standard 2.25 diesel 88" series. Is it possible without chopping the poor ould series to bits. Have the conversion plate for the series gearbox or is there an alternative to this ? Any other pitfalls or previous experiances welcome,,,Ta.... Mike
  13. Thanks lads ,beautiful RR ambulance.......Have made contact with RRR interested to see what develops. And if thats the same Kev @LRW loved the article on the duffle bag !!
  14. Original owner has passed away alas though his son used it til 2000 when it failed its Mot. Passed it on to the dealer I rescued it from. Bit of paperwork with it , some original reciepts from Carawagon for accessories / services. One for £104 for New Zealand Lambs wool seat covers and cushions and guess what..... Still in the vehicle although worn ! And that was £104 pounds in 1974 !!!!!! I believe the car saw use in Switzerland and Dubai with the original owner. Even has the original picnic set (most of it anyway) in the centre console. Twin gas burner, SINK ! with pumped water, fold out table, and the original spare tyre..........unused ! Your right it is indeed a very rare rarity, alas Searle has long since gone, any ideas where i could start lookin for info, since most of its life was in the UK. Mike
  15. Picked it up from a classic car dealer in Ireland ! Its an original Searle Carawagon conversion and has one previous owner in Lincon and still on its orginal plates. Slept in it (and my three children) at a recent overnight 4x4 jambouree that our club www.clri.net held in August of this year. Got super attention a real eyecatcher. It does require restoration but structurally is sound and drives........and V8.......ooh the sound. Mike.
  16. Just wondering does this honey have any brothers or sisters out there ? "74 RRC Carawagon V8, very original condition awaiting restoration........ View my Gallery.
