I thought the spring on the pedal and spring on the injection pump was likely to be sufficient.

Competition is the BAMA mud masters

Guessing the squaddies don’t do any extra prep in order to compete the wolfs

The spring on the pedal is no no. The RAC MSA blue book is very plain.  A spring on the throttle spindle tp shut the fuel in the case of a throttle break.

All UK competitions must be run under Blue Book rules except the organising club can have additional suplementry regulations

  2. Who asks for this, The RAC Blue book doesn't.

The TDi should already have two return springs though. One a metal spring and the other the rubber crommet covering the inner cable is concertinred so acts as a spring

OR thake a piece of knicker elastic and use that if the scrutiner is picky

I used to have this problem rallying my Imp that had twin Stromberg carbs

Turning the heater on does not change coolant flow. The coolant is ALWAYS flowing through the heater matrix (small radiator), all turning it on does is move a flap to change the air flow direction so the air passes over the heater matrix and into cab.

The factory temperature gauge is terrible. It has a very broad range in the “normal” position and by the time it moves and you notice it, it’s too late.

    So true

As for the temperature gauge, I fitted one from SPA

      very accurate

  4. Yes metal plugs are best. You will get them from any plumbers merchants.

    Now filling a 300Tdi.

Remove both the thermostat plug and the radiator top plug

    Fill header tank to level

Fill engine through thermostae housing until full, make sure air is purged by squeezing hoses.

again fill at thermostat housing until radiator is full, again purging air from systen

When coolant is full at thermostat housing and radiator, fit level plugs

Check coolant level in header tank and fit cap

    Test drive

NOTE although called the header tank. The header than is not the highest coolant level

Neither is the 300Tdi fitted with a crossflow radiator

Yeah the idea of us going is i have just purchased a roof tent for my series 2a land rover as it will be mainly used for camping at close to beaches as i do beach metal detecting in Wales, North Yorks and hopefully Cornwall and i also want to kit the back of my landy out for camping but when we arrived there we couldn't really see much in the way of things for sale or to get idea's from which as a novice is what i went for ☹️

    So TUFF TECH TENTS were not there ? {SP}

Wish we hadn't gone now as it was carp as there wasn't many there and not really anything to buy or look at and for what was there was more for the seasoned camper / overlander and not really any good for a novice wanting to get into camping / overlanding but did manage to buy a couple of packs of grinding and cutting discs ☹️

When Tom first brought htis show into being, His idea was that anybody could ask and discuss how to travel. Something I think he did very well.Did you stop and visit many of the well travelled grou ps trere and talk to hem, They have some good ideas believe me.

    Why a roof top tent

The number of times I see vintage and race cars loaded with the engine at the back of the trailer, because the caravan club etc say no more than X kg hitch weight. Which if twin axle you can't measure effectively anyway. I've always pulled the car fwd on the trailer till the front of the trailer dips about and inch ish from its resting angle. However as stated I've towed badly loaded trailers, it just means you adjust your speed as nessasary or you stop and adjust the load (I've done both at various times). When I bought my most recent Sankey the spare was bolted to the back for easy, it was horrendous to tow. I stopped move it to the front and strapped it down then it would happily reach the speed limit.

I soon learned that I had to reverse my IMP rally car onto the traier, forwards on and the trailer was undriveable

  8. Goo greif. I passed my driving test is December 1959, yes that long ago. In a Bristol double decker.

Apart from driving I had no help what so ever on towing although a 32 wheel trailer and a Scammel did help. Most of towing was common sense although to this day I can't reverse a trailer.

Who remembers just a pin and hook, no break away system

    How did we survive

My guess in both the above is the brake was adjusted too tight.  Most garages set up the handbrake to come on after 2 or 3 clicks (by the book).  However, at that, the pads are dragging on the disc, they heat up, expand and it binds.  If you adjust it so it's tight after 5 clicks, it will hold properly - and not bind.  It does / did say that in the instructions though.

You can get it down to 3, maybe 4 clicks if you attach the cable to the inner hole on the caliper lever - but then you need to put a lot of force into the lever to make it grip.

Best option is just 5 clicks.  Set the cable so, with the handbrake released, there is a tiny bit of slack in the cable.

    Si

Exactly Simon but the DoT do not accept that. Well they didn't while I was working

    I see. I thought I was getting on a bit at 60 3/4.

Now the problem with the Mobilty scooters is that they are battery powered, hence not being able to get out of Stockton.

What you need is a nice diesel one. Each.

    Yes a nice v8

Must be a wrench for you after all that time. 😔 or maybe 😄

Are you getting out of Land Rover ownership ? Or buying/bought something else ?

Nothing to drive now at all. At 83 Margaret and myself decided we could no longer set up camp, so we have a mobility scooter each which means we can no loner get out of Stockton

  13. So some of you may not know that recently I made the decision to sell my Defender after 18 years of ownership. Here she is being collected as she is on her way to Ohio to retire in style.

She has been bought by a company who puts British Land Rovers back to standard and as she is an ex BT Special Vehicle she has a good history.
