  2. Since I bought the Disco a couple of weeks ago the front brakes have been dragging a bit (causing heavy steering) and occasionally sticking on fairly badly. Since I have only been doing local journeys and they don't get any more than warm, I haven't been too bothered (bigger fish to fry). However last night I needed to do a 50 mile round trip and didn't have much time to spare, so I removed the wheels and mullered the calipers with a copper-faced mallet, liberating copious amounts of rust. Result? No more sticking brakes and vastly improved steering

hitting things with hammers allways works for me

  3. Thanks for the welcome everyone.

I've been out cleaning the disco all day...

Started out shampoo'ing the interior with the vax, 60L of dirty gritty water, and things are starting to look and smell a lot better.

Sorted out the rear door today as well, no more leaks.

    hi iceworks

now all you got to do is take it out abd get it muddy its the best bit of owning one lol

  4. Hi there :)

A - All Discovery 1 chassis' are eseentially the same regardless of engine.

B - Lift how? Suspension, body or both? The higher you lift the more problems you will encounter as a rule. Also why do you want to lift it (not that its a bad thing, but a lift may not be the best answer depending on the question).

C - Personally don't like k&n filters. The allow more airflow by reduced filtering and then clog up quicker than paper filters and then flow worse. Depending on the fab work you want to do you could fit either air boxes. I'd check Ebay or a LR breakers and try and buy the bits you need however.

    Hope this helps :)

hi hatt i was going to lift it on springs to get better angle of aproach as my 300 has old sagy springs

if it was my old series 3 i would no just what to do but these spring things i not to sure on

and the k&n has to go befor it hydrolics my engine i want to fit a snorkle so i may as well look for a 300 air box save messing around

    many thanx old leafer

  5. hi there i hope this dont go on to much but i have a few questions

    A:is a 300 and a 200 chassis the same

B:can i lift 3 inches with out changing trailing arms ect or should i stick to 2 inch

C:my air box has been removed and have a k&n cone i want to remove this and fit a snorkle

can i use a 200tdi one on my 300 as i will have to pipe it up from scrach or do i need to get an airbox

any advice is most welcome as i have heard so much conflicting i am pulling my hair out and i dont have to much to spare

  6. My suggestion is to look at the Rover Renovations site.

There you will find detailed instructions on overhauling the neglected componants in the Air Suspension, together with all the parts you require.

They sell longer suspension air bags (I think the Gen II for the Classic gives the extra height). They will also supply advice about which longer shock absorbers to use, to make full use of the longer air bags.

By now, they may also have information and software on how to create a low cost system for setting up the system, if you retain the electronic control, or information and parts for converting it to manual control, although the manual control items you can probably get locally in the UK, all you need is the idea and the instructions.

They cover all three Range Rover Models, so seek out the options for the Classic model.

    Hope this Helps

  8. it is also a good idea to make sure you landy is up to it

bald and road tyres just wont get you out of trouble

not to mention cheek oil water hoses etc

sounds stupid but having just pulled an sj out of a lane with blown head gasket threw bad maintanace shows its best to check

would have left it there but it was in the way hehehehehehehee

still i think i sold him a landy so not a total waste of 2 hours

  9. Hello old leafer

Friends and I do hold green lane days around that area (Droitwich to Packington) is one of our fav's.

This run has approx. 12 fords to cross and subject to the previous weather, can be extreme fun....

We are also out and about in many other areas to, Wales, Shropshire, Derbyshire to name but a few.

Next time out, will let you know.

    Chris

thanx chris that would be great its allways fun to get wet feet :D
