  1. I was in this exact position about a year ago, I went for a OME one as i didnt want a boring black one (silly i know) i didnt really feel the difference of getting a HD one.

I actually just broke it not long ago in the snow because i hit a sign...and i dont have a steering guard (yet)...and i was trying to get it sidways

Ive seen a coil over one on one or both of the gigglepin motors which looked interesting but i cant find them anywhere.

  2. Im assuming your talking about the lovely k series engine here. If so the tapits could be sticking and/or some of them have gone soft and not opening the valves enough or at all, if they are just sticking then it should start after being left for a good few hours which lets the contaminated oil drain out of them and when you try and start the engine, fresh oil will be pumped through them and hopefully get them working properly.

Also what has happened to me in the past is i thought i timed it up properly but had one of the cam pulleis 180 degrees out as there are timing marks every 180 degrees on each pulley, it should be so you can read the exhaust and inlet stamped on the pullies, also its possible you could of put one of the pullies on upside down

Other than that all i can suggest is mayby squirt some oil down the bores to try and help it gain that extra compresion to get it to start and check for spark, fuel..etc etc before delving any further.

I got under today to have a look and i got hold of the front prop and turned in from side to side and can hear a knock from the n/s/f hub. 4. Hello there, I have a 1992 200 tdi 90 and for a while now the temp gauge has been getting too high for my liking and just last night it was touching the red,it got to this piont after 10 miniutes and SOMETIMES goes down back into the white when i slow down or stop. The coolant level is fine and hasnt gone down since i last looked at it, the thermostat is about 6 months old and the radiator is about 3 months old.

Also last night my 90 has developed a hatred for small hills and also getting to 60 mph, when the temperature was below freezing a week ago it wouldn't go above 30mph untill it warmed up. I took the air filter out this mourning and it was quite muddy (pay and play site) which isnt good.

    Could these problems be linked?

    any help appreciated

  5. I would say take the landy everytime, 4wd will always be better than 2wd in the snow and your tyres will definately have more chance of gripping when it matters compared to the standard road tyres of a fiesta, and when you do want to have some fun just put it in difflock. My mates always say to me that i cant do doughnuts in the snow becuase of where the handbrake is and i just say to them why would i need the handbrake when ive got 4wd and difflock? :)

  6. Thank you for you suggestions, the main reason im asking is that i go offroading regulary and have been through a few alternators, so i would like to have a cheap one i can throw on when i want to go and play.

So what rovers did they put that alternator on and how common are they?

    cheers

  7. the thin wire is the doide pack output wire that goes to the warning lamp , such that the lamp earths through the alternator if the alternator stops generating current. This is before the voltage regulator and the main output wires are after the reg . Not clever to cross connect the cables

Thank you for that the wires are now repaired and heavily taped up with insulation tape

  8. Thank you for your replies, i have rung up my supplier who are motor factors so it could be that im buying cheap rubbish but i cant afford a new one so they are taking my old one back to test and giving me another under warranty.

I have also noticed two wires that come from the alternator that were damaged so that the cores were showing and were possibly touching each other whay damage if any could this of done?

errol209 thank you for your tip of using pop to clean it are there any other tips to clean or waterproof it?

    thanks again

  9. Hi, i have a 1992 200tdi 90, and im about to put its third alternator on in the space of a year, what i am asking is....why?

I occasionally go offroading which does involve water (obviously) and i have recently added some extra lights which are wired up to main beem (not sure what wattage),the second alternator was only put on 2 months ago.Could the water or extra lights cause the life of the alternator to shorten??

    cheers

  10. Hi there, i have a 1992 200tdi 90 and recently every so often (so not all the time) the temp gauge goes right up to the end of the white, it happened firstly when doing the 20 minuite drive back from work and then it was fine the next day but did it again the next day, after i dropped a mate off at their house.

I have been offroading alot recently and thought it could be mud clogging the rad, i did clean it once already but it could need doing again. I also thought there could be an internal blockage somewhere but thought i would be better off posting it on here before forking out.

    some advice please :)
