  1. I reused the head bolts when i did the head gasket on mine, dont think the manual says anything about not reusing them and neither does autodata.

forestrynick ive got a set of slam sockets for when i round a bolt off, they have sharp edges on the inside of the socket and in theory when you hammer them on the more you turn the more they grip onto the bolt they dont always work but have helped me out in the past, worth buying even if they cant help you this time they will in the future, i got mine from my local motorfactors.

p.s. i also have a set of headbolts to spare but i spose newport pagnell isnt worth the either.

  2. When i put a 200tdi in mine, i changed the clutch, head gasket, rocker cover gasket, cambelt (and all gaskets involved in a cambelt change),and adjusted the tapits all because its just so much easier to do having the engine where and at what height i wanted it at.

  3. Hi i am looking to get some wheels for my 90 but cant find them anywhere, the wheels i want are 15x10" black 8 spokes i know they exist as ive seen them on landies at some of the shows ive been to so far this year, but i cant find anyone that sells them.

can anyone help me out here?

    cheers

  4. I am definatley going, ive been to santa pod 3 times this year already for car shows and i love it, the RWYB can be very interesting, and compared to some of the other shows there it is quite cheap, 1 of them was £20 FOR ONE DAY!.I shall be going on the mud RWYB and the offroad course and enter the mud and grime competion hopefully, i anticipate a very fun weekend. Although i got kicked out last time for sliding round the muddy car park, it was worth it though.

hopefully they wont recognise me this time

  5. i too agree with leeds, i hope both shows do well, but the situation could of been avoided if both shows werent on the same weekend, all it would of taken is one of the shows to move as little as one week before or after the 17th of july that would of at least given more people the option of going to both thuss more business for the smaller 4x4 traders.

Surely it is in both lro and lrm's best interest to get as many visitors as possible and not to try and steal them from the other show. It is this competiveness/stuberness that is really killing the smaller traders.

how much difference can 1 week make anyway?

i personally would of gone to both but i am just going to billing as its closer and i have been going since i can remember.

i hope next year at least one of the shows will see sense and move the date of there show for everyones benfit.

  6. Update: I have now replaced the breather with a used one i had lying around which i cleaned before hand, i then did wot cieranc said put a bottle on the breather pipe and plugged the hole in the air box and no oil entered the bottle for the few minuites i had i connected, i then put a brand new OE filter in and took for a road test and it looks like its been sorted, no oil fell out as i seperated the air box, although there is oil on the plastic bit of the filter which is worrying but for the time being it seems to be ok.

    thanks guys

  7. Cheers cieranc, i will try and do that tommorow because all my tools are at work and im not taking my 90 to work tommorow, then i shall report back.

just so i know if oil does collect in this bottle does that mean there a problem with the breathing?

    cheers again

  8. There is enough oil in there to make it leak between the 2 halves of the air box which is what made me look in there, the turbo pipe is coated in oil also.

I cleaned out the air box yesturday and its leaking still.

I took the filler cap off there is no smoke/oil, there is a little pressure againt my hand when i cover it.

les: i assume the oil seperator is in the sump??

    cheers

  9. Hi, im planning on fitting both axles from H reg disco onto my 1992 200tdi 90 so i have discs on the back and i currently have a dented pan on the front so i would like to get rid of that aswell, i also plan to fit air lockers to them in the future.

    so my questiones are:

    1. Can i change the disco axles to 24 spline by changing the half shafts, cvs and flanges if i fit a 24 spline locker?

    2. Will i have to change anything on the front of my 90 like steering drop arm etc?

    cheers

  10. Hello, as i have mentioned before i have changed the timing case on my 200tdi 90 from a disco one to a defender (because i drowned the original engine etc etc..) when i got it running again i noticed it was leaking oil from inside the timing case so i took the front cover off to find that the oil was coming from the center of the belt tensioner, so i then took the timing case off again and i noticed a small circular gasket around the hole in the block, also noticed that there was another hole below it and the gasket was around the hole that tensioner bolt didnt go in so i then assumed that one hole was for the disco case the other for a defender.

Got a new gasket put it round the hole that was being used i also put rtv sealant around the gasket and other hole to make sure, threw it all back together got it running and GREAT! its wasnt leaking accept now when i come back from driving it for a few miles i park up and for 5 mins or so it leaks from the case untill it cools down again, i suppose its because the oil is thinner when its warm so it leaks through small gaps.

    does anyone have any ideas??

    cheers

  11. I have now FINALLY! got insured on it now, the company is kwik fit for 2100, its quite expensive but i can handle it monthly..just. When i had it insured before i was the named driver when in fact i was the main driver which as some have said its illegal, this time however i we have done it properly with my dad as a frequent user which still brings the price down, so im happy :D

thank you for all the help

  12. Cheers for all the replys, looks like ive got some ringing round to do,

ive tried footman james and lancaster but they dont like either my age or mods.

its no wonder why so many people these days lie about the spec of their vehicle, its made so difficult and drawn out so long when your on the phone just to be told no the vehicle is to modified, i mean how much damage can 2" do anyway?

  13. hello, i am 18 years of age and have got a 1992 90 200tdi with a 2" lift and getting insured seems to be a big problem, all the companies we have tried either said no to my age or the modification or the two combined, i have been insured on it before but took it off to do some work on it over a 5-6 month period and now not even that company will insure me again with no real explination. All this is with my farther on the insurance with his 7 years NCB.

can anybody help me on this one?

    cheers

  14. hi, since doing the head gasket, timing belt, diesel pump and clutch on my 1992 200tdi 90, after driving for a while if i boot it in 4th, 5th and sometimes 3rd it loses power and graudually dies and settles untill it reaches 35-40 and sometimes when i slow down it will misfire and i find it hard to pull away again, i took out the air filter as it looked manky but no difference.

i was thinking mayby lift pump or blocked pipe as filter is new.

the engine is a disco one with a 90 timing case if that for some reason would make a difference

    any help appreciated

    cheers, ethan
