  1. It seems I found an answer to my question

    http://www.landroverforums.com/archive/thr...or-71115-1.html

Zirconia O2 sensor (narrowband/wideband) Creates an output voltage corresponding to the quantity of oxygen in the exhaust relative to that in the atmosphere.

Titania O2 sensor Does not generate its own voltage, but changes its electrical resistance (ohm) in response to the oxygen concentration.

    Titania O2 Sensor Cable designation:

    red - 12 V (heater)

white - 10.8 V return (heater) 1.2 volt stay always inside the sensor

    yellow ground

black - sends resistance (ohm) signal to the ECU

    So here it is: 1.2v.

  2. Your engine issues are unlikely to be the fault of your oxy sensors if both are switching as well as the scope trace you show.I would look elswhere,as stated you are only looking at a small electrical potential,so the fact that they are switching so cleanly is all you can ask of them.Poor plug leads, plugs, leaky injectors, disconnected fuel pressure regulator, inlet and exhaust leaks, poor compression or blocked exhausts are just a few reasons for poor performance. You would be suprised how poorly an engine can be running yet the ecu is still able to run closed loop and keep the sensors switching.Dont get too hung up on specific waveform times, your problem is elswhere.Good luck in finding it,its an interesting journey.

:) You just read my mind! Thanx!

  3. The idea about bad ground is might be reason of negative voltage. Thanx, steve_a.

The samplerate is ok. Will take some more waveforms tomorrow with good samplerate anyways.

2FridgeFreezer: I always thought that o2 sensors take part in idle work. Sure stepper motor gives air on idle, but ECU still has to know how much fuel should it give.

About the LR sensors and waveform. Thats what I thought. Decpite BOSCH docs my sensor's waveform is looking good in general. I was confused that it does not work as I expected, but it works completely different, so much different that I began to think that it should be in this way and everyghing is allright.

My last open question. As I read there are types of o2 sensors zirconium and titania. But as I see here http://www.picoauto.com/applications/lambda-sensor.html I would expect from LR's sensor voltage from 0 to 5v, but I see only 1.2v max.

    What's wrong? Nevertheless I found o2 titania sensor for Disco 3.9 http://www.lambdasensor.com/main/lrover.htm

Is it Zirconium or Titania? I suppose titania, but why does it work so strange?

  4. My car has problems running idle, big fuel consuption, loss of power. Well, these symptoms may be caused of bad o2 sensor, you might all agree, that why I wanted to measure it before I replace.

THANX FOR THE WAVEFORM, FridgeFreezer! Do you have a more detailed waveform to see the time?

I've read lot's of docs, but they were mainly for BOSCH sensors, probably sensors in LR work a little bit different. Anyways, according to the docs here are the things I do not like in my waveform:

    1. Voltage below 0v. I expected it to be at least 0, but not below.

    2. Voltage above 0.9v. Never seen a waveform with a signal above 1v. Until now.

    3. Frequency. The disctance between peaks must be not more than 1 second. The signal must change 1-2 times a second on idle running engine. But not really sure.

    4. Attack. The distance from the low value giong to high must be not more than 120ms. And I have much more.

Look at this video file, it's in russian but you'll understand what I am talking about. Have patience to look at it:) http://injectorservice.com.ua/docs/lambda.swf

I will appreciate any comments and sharing of your knowledge.

  5. I have recently bought an oscilloscope and have already measured the oxygen sensor of mine. Does anybody has a waveform of good working o2 sensor on discovery? I interested in discovery, not in the samples from the other cars, 'case I have them a lot, but would like to have from disco. The thing is that I want to absolutely sure that my waveform is wrong (o2 sensor is not working correctly). I attach a waveform which I got.

  6. My car is from Germany in origin (European export), not US. If it's not OBD compatible then there is no sense to buy an OBD diagnostic tool. Thanks to all of you for the answers. BTW, I believe I've seen the connector when I have changed the alarm ecu.

  7. Cold tyres , normal on and off road use

    Front : 28lbs ( 1.9 bar )

    Rear : 38 lbs ( 2.6 bar ).

 2.6 is too much. Normally I always had 1.8-2.0 on both fronmt and rear. I have carried 600kg of weight at 2.2 (but that was not good). Now I have 2.4 on road for mud tires to last longer (0.8 - 1.0 in mud:) ). But that's too much for normal tyres. Just do 1.8 - 2.0 bars. 100kg of weight? Forget about it, you will not feel it, my LPG tank in the back weights more!

  8. This is probably a well discussed question, but I don't know where to star from.

My discovery 1 '96 is OBD? OBD2? Where connector is located?

I want to buy a diagnostic tool but don't know which one do I need. Please point me the right materials and articles to start from. Thanx.

  9. Your spider unit might be hacked already, otherwise it should be immobilised.

Go on and set up your aftermarket alarm box, I've just recently done that by myself, can consult on where to get right wires:)

  10. I was doing some work on the Disco this morning and when I was finished I left it unlocked in the drive for probably 2 hours.

When I jumped back in it would not start. I locked it and unlocked and it started first time.

Is this a trait of the immobiliser or do I have a problem?

    Passive Immobilisation:

    - 30 secs after ignition has been turned off and driver's door opened

    - 5 minutes after ignition has been turned off

    - 5 minutes after disarming theft alarm

  11. if the tyres are just for show and you dont require articulation, do the 265s fit on with no mods... YES

I like this idea, really:) Throw out spring and shocks they are for kids, real men just do some welding (bumpstops to axels) and go with 35" ! I believe it's quite easy:)

  12. I have 265x75 with 2" suspension lift.

    No problems except:

    1) You need to do a camel cut. Easy to do 5 mins of work.

    2) They rub on radius arms for sure. Tutn off the stoping bolt to fix this. 5 mins of work.

So dont be afraid and go on!

But without a lift 265x75 I suppose will not fit. Even if they will not rub there will be no space for wheel to go up. No sense in 265x75 without a lift.

  13. I HAVE DONE IT!!!

I have successfuly removed the alarm ecu from my disco. To remove it I had to hardwire pins 10 and 11 on C274 connector (hardwire ground with Starter Solenoid Relay). This mights be also useful for somebody, that's why I do this post. Now I'm completely ready to install aftermarket alarm.

  14. Hi. About to buy an LPG 3.5V8 Mk1 Disco. Want to know what the MPG is on a 'cost equivalent'?

    Thanks!

I have LPG installed on my 3.9 engine, 8 LPG injectors. Now it consumes 5-10% more LPG comparing to petrol.

  15. done a quick recap, the alarm ecu is in the passenger footwell small box green in colour with "lucas 10 AS " on it hope this helps.

thanks, this helped:) actually i have switched off something, but not alarm box:) there is a black box near ECU with similar pinouts.

ok, now I found the alarm ECU, and spider also.

I have hardwired the pins on spider, which are 10-6, 8-4 according to BogMonster. Now I can release "the official BogMonster Bypass + (version 1.1)", for V8 motors you should also hardwire pins 2-3 which go for fuel pump. This works on mine ride. BogMonster should add this to his article in TechArchive.

  16. Hi Igot my discovery a month ago and its the first one I have had. I love but I do want to do some bits on it and one is to take out the Radio/cassette player and put in a cd player. That seems easy, but when I got a cd player from a guy on ebay, I found that my Radio/cassette player had a load of extra wires coming out from the back of the unit going into a white connector there are 5 wires as well as the others in the plugs on the righthand side of the unit. The cd changer didnt have these extra 5 wires. Whta are the extra wires and do I need a differnat cd changer

I am sure someone knows so please help TA

You might mess up with the wiring. Here is the wiring for speakers and etc. None for cd changer, sorry.

  17. When I switch off the engine and leave for longer than say 30 secs - even though I have not removed the key - the engine will not fire unless I hit the unlock button on the remote fob. The indicators then light for a few secs and she starts fine.

Is this normal behaviour or indicative of flat batteries in the remote ?

    Cheers

I'm almost sure that according to RAVE this is your case:

QUOTE: Passive Immobilization "30 seconds after ignition has been turned off and the driver's door has been opened"

I think you should check your driver's door switch. It usually losts contact. Does the interior light work correctly when you open the door?

  18. Hi, a lot of us have been down the same road, Bogmonster has done a listing months ago, try putting in a search for alarms on the forum, you will be surprised by what comes up. If I remember correctly the spider has'nt got a lot to do with the alarm ( some body will correct me if I'm wrong), you can get away with leaving the disco's alarm on and not using the original key fob this saves a lot of head scratching and throwing of hammers around the garage, best of luck

Sure I had searched the forum before I made a topic, the answers that I found do not cover my questions.

  19. The story began when I lost my keyfob. So right now I'm opening my car with an emergency code which I enter with a key.

I've decided to install aftermarket alarm (which offers remote radio key, remote start and other nice features).

Meanwhile I was trying to deactivate alarm ECU just taking out the wires from it. But when I lock the doors alarm activates (I don't know how it does). This is the first question:

How to uninstall alarm in Disco I? Sure in disarmed state. How to remove alarm ECU? What makes alarm sound when ECU is switched off?

And the second question. As I said I want to install by myself aftermarket alarm (Alligator 875RS), did anybody done that by himself? What are the problems? Any directions? How to control spider unit or it should be removed?

  20. I have '96 disco v8 with catalyst. Can not find a gasket for it.

The parts catalogue says that i need

    ETC4524 GASKET TO VA 534104

    or

    ESR3737 GASKET FROM VA 534104

None from the above is mine. 3737 seems to be for TDI (big gasket with one round hole), and 4524 looks almost the same but for non-catalyst exhaust.

I need a gasket as shown in catalogue almost as 4524 but with one hole in a form of "number eight".

Please help in finding this gasket.

  21. Hi All

I am considering having a LPG conversion done to my 02 Discovery 2 V8 any body done it ? am I being silly thinking about it ? I realise it will cost in the region of 2 grand and will take about 20,000 miles to recoupe the cost but worried about it,s effect on my loverly 30,000 mile 4.0 V8 any good trustworthy dealers known to you all, all replys much appricated

I have LPG installed. 20 litters on petrol for 100km and 22 of liquid gas comparing. The system has 8 separate gas injectors. But I loose a little in power (just a little).
