  1. The 110 Salisbury rear axle is a very robust unit, but if it has been run out of oil, and something went bang, a 'proper' rebuild is likely to be costly. The Salisbury is quite labour intensive to set up, as the complete diff cannot be removed as a unit from the axle, unlike the Rover type axle (like your front one), and set up on the bench.

It may well be more cost effective to find a complete second hand axle which has not been run out of oil. This is particularly true if your 110 is one of the older ones with drum brakes on the rear axle. These axles can be purchased relatively cheaply compared to the later disc braked Salisbury, which is in higher demand because owners often like to change from the drum brakes to the lower maintenance disc brakes.

Common areas for wear are the driving member/halfshaft splines.

It is certainly worth checking these on yours and any replacement you purchase.

    Regards,

    Diff

its off a 2001 so disc braked shafts and flange spines are fine

  2. My rear diff has been noisey since sodbury when after big bang and grinding noise we got big yellow taxi home. the rear pans rusted through and leaked alloil out. So do i just replace or repair/rebuild the existing diff but i i mean pay an expert. Cannot see any dammage looking at the diff with cover off

  3. my 110 is ex AA and has a maple technology drivertech imobiser system you can leave eengine running and without the tab soon as you try to drive off it cuts out. Like an idiot i've lost the only tab and now can go anywhere anyone hvae a clue of bypassing removing an imobliser sytem?

  4. What knot(s) do truckers use to tie their loads down ?

I've got a roof-rack of stuff to go to Sodbury ( see kinda back on topic ) and it'd be nice to know how to lash it all down with rope - rather than the multitude of ratchet and cam-lock straps I always seem to use.

Its called a pigs ear gets real tight and is easy to undo.

  5.

I think the dash used to be available, La salle if I remember right was the name.

Congrats, you wont regret it, I dont think.

Nothing beats a s3 for looks. edit-my girlfriend (and future wife) disagrees.

    Daan

Except a late IIA with a metal gril :D Personal preferance. Anyway my dad was looking atthat series 3 is a very nice motor and the dash wouldnt be as bad once you had a radio cb and some switches installed just looks a little plain

  6. There much better than using a grinder well worth having in a workshop. Your cuts will always be square and there no more noisy than a big grinder plus no risk of it catching and nearly taking your hand off.
