  1. i have run 36" extreme trekkers for a few years now and have been impressed with them but overall they dont measure any higher than 35" simexs. They even fitted club off roads 35" tyre limit tool a few years ago ;)

    Paul

paul i dont belive it, it said 36" on the tyre wall and uncle Brian let it pass scrutineering and his strict boarder control? you were luck that COR gustapo didnt burn your truck!

  2. can someone please give me a couple of rough dimensions for a 90 chassis as follows:

The width of the internal faces of the chassis rails.

the distance of the gear box cross member from the centre of the tube and the centre of the front axle along with a rough diameter of the tubing for the crossmember?

needs for drawing cad drawing for uni and no vehicle close to measure = dont feel much like lying in floor atm. lol.

    many thanks, Tim.

  3. thanks for the offer TSD. although any ibex is better than no ibex id really like mine back, or another 240. im not sure but if the 250 your on about but im guessing its either a blue 250 Hard top or a yellow 250 soft top. im pretty sure the blue one has sold but ive got magazines with adverts for it at 15 grand so ill give that to the solicitor.

im prepared for a long hall with the insurance, so much so ill hopefully have a 300 tdi 90 with a roll cage and winches in a couple of week to get me through the summer marshalling/doing some events. im glad id been saving up beforehand!

  4. Here's my 2p, I've been in insurance since 1989 and now I am an IFA with contacts in GI and motor claims.

Who is your motor policy with? Most these days sell legal cover with their policies, so dig it out and see if they will pay for a solicitors for you. If you don't have legal expenses cover, go and visit one of the "Where there's blame, there's a claim" solicitors - I can dig out lists of them if you need one.

You are entitled to compensation to return the vehicle to its pre-accident condition or a true substitute. You are entitled to be compensated for your pain and injuries and for any long term effects. You will probably feel much worse in a week as the bruising starts to come out. Keep a record of all of your injuries, who treated you and when. Keep a record of all your damaged gear and claim for that too. The NHS will bill you for the initial treatment, pass the bill to your/the other party's insurers.

Talk to your broker/insurer and ask them to get permission for your vehicle to be repaired and ask them to arrange for a substitute vehicle - this should place some pressure on the other party's insurers to get on with it. (Don't be greedy with the substitute vehicle, what you NEED and no more). Ideally, recover the Ibex to a place you control, as mentioned by others.

Your solicitor should help you pursue the claim to it's conclusion - ultimately sue the scrote; as he's apparently insured, he should press his insurers to settle. If he dies, sue his estate - if he was insured, the insurers have to step in.

Do you have a reliable value for your Ibex? pre and post accident? Ask Mr Foers for one, this will be the basis for the property claim. As most insurance assessors will never have met an Ibex, get them to consult with Mr Foers BEFORE they write their reports. Most won't have the first clue about non-standard vehicles, so don't let them describe it as a LR90.

Good luck, remember right is on your side but it can be a proper pain to get it exercised on your behalf. Owning a Ibex appears to have done you a favour, I cannot see a Clio, Bravo or Corsa surviving that too well.

yes i have leagal cover with a company called AIM who i rang yesterday morning and theyre apointed a solicitor to me. so i awaiting his phone call which i guess will be monday. so them ill tell him id like to car to be repaired or another ibex as a replacemnt.

im guessing it will be a long drawn out process, but good things come to those who wait.

and every cloud has a silver lining, the very good looking young lady who was looking after me whilst i was sat in her mini gave me her phone number........ looks like a bit of recouperation and off to the pub :P

  5. When you ask for substitute vehicle , insist that it is similar eg LR90 , discovery , etc as they will likely try and give you a 5 seat saloon eg corsa etc . This will further concentrate their minds on a speedy settlement , as their is a big difference in hire costs . Make sure nothing is missed if you are going to go repair route , which will require , by look of your vehicle will only be possible if you end with settlement that allows you retain wreck and carrying out repairs with your settlement money and it will have total loss classification on its reg details for rest of its life . I dont see ins co repairing that.

You will be better off pushing for best possible settlement amount , and going out and finding a replacement vehicle .

It is very common to find many minor (and not so minor) damaged components after the assesment , and during repair

when dealing with an impact of that magnitude , eg chipped gears in diffs, bearings , hairline fractures in castings causing leaks , thats one of the reasons insurance companies err very much on the cautious side when looking at repairing authorisations . make sure you have removed any personal items of kit , asap pref before assessment . This doesnt include anything that is part of insured value of vehicle , esp if you have fully disclosed as you should have to your ins co , eg winch , stereo system etc .

(Was involved in recovery/ repair for many years) HTSH

p,s, good advice re solicitor by prev post .

i was told by my insurance after explaining the vehicle use that, the only thing my policy would not insure is any winching equipment, the only 'modification' made to the vehicle is the snokel as ive luckily not had time to start building my vehicle properly yet, so ive been lucky my salisbury axles were'nt on it, nor was my gwyn lewis kit or my 8274!

i understand what your saying about finding damage after the crash, neither of the axle are salvageable, the gear box is gone and the sump was punctured. untill we rip it in bits we wont know what the true damage is, but like most enthusiasts we get attached to out vehicles, the really special thing about this ibex is its the second one ever built so its essentially a prototype and its covered the most miles out of all of them soo im told. To me personally its a very special vehicle and currently a blank canvas.

  6. Thanks for all the advice.

so far Mr foers had recieved alot of pictures, hes assesing the damage and then making a decision, is she repairabale? if she is in his opinion hes going to glossop to view the viehicle in the flesh and then write a valuation for the vehicle befor the accident, ill ask him for a quote for a new built 240 and an estimate as to howmuch it will cost for the repairs.

The police rang me last night. the investigator said the scarlet was most certainly on the wrong side of the road, eye witnesses say he was previously overtaking people like an arse. so all in all its his fault and his insurance. Luckily hes alive now, and talking, so he will be chaged with dangerous driving and bye bye to his licence and seeing as hes a ukscarletowners member im guessing hes lost his pride and joy motor. ive even found a picture of him on the website ......

The police assesor will be visiting the garage next week to look at both vehicles and see if they were road worthy befor the accident. ive told the garage and now the police that the ibex isnt to be moved and both have said thats ok and it shall not go anywhere. as soon as the police say the vehicle released im going to have it delived to the yard where itll be locked up. anyone from the insurance will have to ask to do anything with it.

Im going to see the doctors in the morning as im getting more and more sore as time goes on. so its best to go see them and get checked out and have the complaints on record. i can understand a stiff neck and back but not the dizzy spells im getting, i dont think i was unconcious during any part of the crash and i cant see what ive hit my head on going forwards.

so now i guess its just put the case forward, argue the toss, and hope to get get paid out fairly.

  7. Last night i booked a night off from work as the weather was nice and went to drive stanage edge greenlane.

on the way home we went back via the main road which i think is snake pass. anyway my buddy was up front in a 90, i was behind in my ibex doing 50mph. Then out of nowhere came two head lights from the other side of the road! bang!

The ibex span 150 degree and then rolled backwards into the armco lining the road! eye witnesses/people who had been over taken by the little twazzoc said he was doing well over 80mph so a combined impact speed of 130mph, NICE!

so, im rushed to hospital on a spine board after about 40mins assessing the damage to the motor and going to see the other car etc, adrenalin took over i think as im in a world of pain now!

what should i do as reguards to an insurance claim?

is it common practice that i insist the car be repaired as it wasnt my fault? or can it only be written off and paid out?

The damage that we could see at the scene was, two bent axles, a trashed gearbox (transfer box ripped off), the radius arm mounting pushed through, the front wing/headlight/grill structure bent alot!, bent trailing arm, punctured sump (i killed the engine imedatley).

it would be a major repair and would have to be done at foers or maddisons imo.

how should i go about claiming for the damage?

The other car was very bad, the drivers side was pretty much ripped off, A piller, door, door pillar and rear quarter , rear wheel were totally removed. the driver was alive at the scene but wasnt good the passenger did a runner onto the moors (not a good sign).

Im just glad i was in the ibex, i dont think id have been in a very good shape otherwise, cheers Mr Foers.

  8. i usually use a d44 anchor but had the pleasure of using an x eng one on the scotia event on a 110.and it was very good in most types of ground.

2 little downsides are that it is harder to get out than the d44 when dug well in and the blade is non removable.

its also needs a bracket ala d44 to hold it outside the car when in heavy use rather than the quickfists that many folk use.

bottom line is its well worth buying.

ill second that, i was kindly lent the said x eng ground anchor when i was having difficulties with mine in the hard icey ground. They seem to dig in and get a hold very easily and requide minimum standing on ect to get to start digging down.

the best bit is they weight nothing and can be easily carried in one hand/used as a walking aid. unlike my goldigger anchor which you need a winch to move it and you cant really sprint with it.

  9. i use axle mounted dislocation cones at the back and gwyn lewis spring retainers and cones at the front.

after speaking to gwyn i made the rear locators point slightly backward instead of streight up, this is because the axle moves forward whilst articulating, when in deep mud the spring can be pushed backward when it is uncompressed causing it to miss the dislocation cone. having them pointed slightly backwards stops this.

The front spring retainers allow for partial disloation at the axle end and full dislocation at the top using the gwyn lewis mounts, this happend by allowing the spring to pivot and removes a small amout of bind from the front suspension.

    spring retainer

    Tim.

  10. post picture up of the engine in the vehicle with the front pannel fitted as a first off.

you cant have mounted the radiator in a logical way, when i did mine the oil cooler pipes fitted just requiring a slight bend to the metal tubes. The intercooler i fitted was from a 300 tdi and didnt need the outlets modified and neiter did the rad.

all the hoses i used were old disco ones chopped and joined. the inter cooler hoses were just standard disco pipes cut and joined but with the turbo comp cover rotated so the outlet pointed upwards.

lro did a how to fit a 200 tdi to a series, get a copy, its very helpful.

also for hoses and jointers i use merlin motorsport

  11. Weve got about 4'' here in west yorkshire which by now should equate to a foot up at holme moss/yate holme and scamonden.

i was out untill 4:20 am playing, nearly stuffed the ibex, had a big tank slapper at 5mph and ended up in the middle of the road, then my mate did the same, very funny! then proceded to make a ice rink in a resovoir car park, and played landrover drifting fo about an hour or so. i now feel all dirty and chav like.

  12. if youve got a defender front just mount it all as a defender with two brackets on the chassis and then two on the slam pannel.

The metal cowl that holds the rad and intercooler will require the bottm pin mounts cutting down so that the cowl sits flush on the chassis mounts, and then add two pins for the top mounts to locate onto.

  13. to fit a salisbury the spring seats need to be swapped and the prop shaft need to be sortened by aproximatly an inch. you may get a prop from a series landrover to fit but ive never looked into it.

the salisbury axle is alot stronger than standard, the diff wont break and the shafts are also bigger in diameter and have more splines on them.

ive run a salisbury on the back and 10 spline standard axle on the front with 35" simex without problems, alot of it is to do with how you drive.

  14. I dont have an special (hidraulic)autolift for car repair. But when it comes to repair under car it is difficult without it.So I was thinking to fabricate one but not an hidraulic one, just something like this:

    post-8654-1232408001_thumb.jpg

Can anyone suggest some mesures and some security rules for something like this.

And also how do you call this toll,I dont know english very good an I can not find in google some information.

Thanks pictures, schemes, photo, links will be very heplfull.

who is the landrover in the picture?

  15. frank pickles insurance brokers from otley, 01943 850999, ask for Andrew.

im 22 and because of that, no big insurance companies would insure me on my Q plated ibex. i had a quote from adrian flux for 900 and off pounds. Franck pickles searched around and got it down to 430 which imo is acceptable considering my age.

these so called specialist for landrovers and modified 4x4s seem a complete waste of time and total joke imo, they all prech we understand landrovers but when you get one on the phone theyre a bunch of tards controlled by a computer screen.

  16. Just fit the Britpart one, chances are it's as good as any of the others and IF it does fail 100 miles later you can blame it all on Britpart whereas if you fit an OEM one and it fails then you'll have to take the full blame yourself :)

The whole Britpart thing is taken way out of proportion IMV, Britpart don't manufacture anything themselves and most of the parts are made by the same companies that make the OEM stuff anyway.

buy a britpart thermostat, put it in a pan of boiling water and watch it not open! imo i dont trust britpart parts.

if you want spurious part that work use bearmach.
