roger
Hi all. I am considering power improvement on my 2014 2.2 tdci. Before buying the vehicle I read a test somewhere that stated the defenders torque output was limited by the engine management unit in all gears except 6th! (presumably as some transmission saver). The vehicle certainly seems to develop more power/torque in 6th gear at around 2000rpm / full throttle and accelerate better than it does in 5th or even 4th gear at the same revs. I was wondering if this "feature" could be removed by disconnecting or modifying the sensor? I mentioned it to my landy service centre and they said the defender has no such switch that they were aware of! Anybody got any views on this? I guess the alternative is a remap or similar and that seems like a whole minefield of options! roger
V8 Freak
I'm no expert on TDCi's but have seen a lot written about improving their performance, and don't recall anything about a specific torque limiter for specific gears. Many companies are offering re-maps for the vehicle. IRB, BAS, JE etc... Just depends how deep your pockets are. http://jemotorworks.co.uk/power-performance-defender/
Happyoldgit
Hi Roger and welcome to the forum. I've had several Puma TDCI's and don't recall anything specific about a change of engine tune characteristics in 6th gear high ratio, are you referring to low range as I have a feeling the ECU does alter tune in this ratio.
