robmacca
Hey Guys, My 1st post here so hopefully this is the right section to post this..... I've recently purchased a 2009 Defender 2.4ltr Tdci 110 Wagon. It's just come back from its 1st service with a report that there is a "crack" in the exhaust manifold. I'm not sure if this is common (it's not from what I can tell) but I'm now looking for what options I have to get this fixed. I priced a new one from LR and that option is a bit outside my budget for the moment so what other options do I have? Being the same engine from a Ford Transit, will one of those manifolds from the 2.4 Transit be the same as what I have? If so, where is the best place to source one from? Is a 2nd hand an option that I should look at as this would be an affordable option for me atm? Welcoming advice and ideas... cheers rob
joe1
Welcome! I'm not sure if the tranny manifold is the same, but its always (depending on the position of the crack) possible to weld up an exhaust manifold - just heat the manifold first in an oven and then use the correct cast iron rods, jobs a good 'un. I did this on a Mitsu manifold a while ago and it held up good. Works out a lot cheaper than another manifold...
reb78
I was going to suggest welding it. I’m no expert though. I havent done anything like a manifold and the temperatures it experiences but have done some reasonable welds on cast stuff with the right rods. I’m sure a pro welder could help.
