Defender768
Hi Comrades, I have recently purchased a defender on a galvanised chassis. I admit I did rush into things and have now pieced everything together. The previous owner did the rebuild he brought a dipped td5 chassis off eBay and used that on the build. The chassis has had the number ground off it leaving a rust mark on the dumbbell and it looks hooky. How would you go about sorting it out ? This also brings up the point about chassis numbers. Can I stamp the chassis with the vin from my v5 or is that illegal and in the DVLA guidelines it states the chassis must be the original spec however the truck is a 1998 so 300tdi so would I be covered or not as the fuel tank and engine mounts are different ? any help would be much appreciated
Blanco
I think what you are are suggesting is illegal. It is not legal to change the identity of a chassis. I have a similar situation with my 130 which was rebuilt on a supposedly 'new' chassis, that turned out to be fudged. The only correct solution is to embark on the IVA trail. Of course that will be more painful
gixer1109
Rather than the IVA it might be easier to buy a brand new galv chassis and fit that ..... of just keep quiet and never mention it again. Who in all honestly is going to go looking for this issue unless you bring it up.
