What is this sensor for?

Hi all.

Does anyone know what the sensor under the oil filter on a Disco 2 2003. TD5 engine is for.  There are 2 wires coming from it (black and white) and running over the top of the gearbox and then vanishing into the invisible area there.   The sensor has a yellow cover to which the wires are attached.

The reason I ask is that I was changing the oil in my  Disco and saw one of the wires is unattached but there are no warning lights and the Disco is going just dandy.  Any suggestions

That would be the oil pressure switch. Does the oil pressure warning light come on when you turn on the ignition but don't start the engine? Probably not, as it needs both wires connected. Not a real problem, until you actually do encounter low oil pressure, so best sort the wiring.
