Meagre-squirt 3.5 hesitation

So I finally got round to stapling the MS2 (Phil built V3.0) to my old 3.5 but I have had an issue with hesitation on initial throttle blips, making gear changes an unpleasant experience. MS2 is only controlling fuel because where I live it WILL fail an MOT type inspection if they detect any mods on it, so its not that causing the issue. Wide band installed and I can tune it somewhat but its overwhelming at the moment.  Im presuming it s the fuel enrichment and I have adjusted the Accel enrichment wizard but for the life of me I cant get it to smooth out.

1. Any ideas on what might be causing the issue? Anyone got a working map they could "borrow"?

2. Anyone stuck a 300tdi airbox in a V8 (the old one wont go back)?

3. Can megasquirt run the distributer through the coil negative wire (it has a trigger wheel) off one of the four outputs from the ecu?

Thanks in advance

  1. Probably accel enrichment, yes
  2. Yes, although I think mine are 200 they're very similar
  3. Yes but you'd probably need a coil driver IC added in and it can cause interference / instability, it's nicer to drive an external coil driver/amplifier with a low-power / low-voltage signal.

Thanks for the quick reply... Does this screenshot of the accel enrichment look right?

So I have been tuning without an air filter attached (shouldn't I know) and I plumbed it in yesterday to see if it was the reason why it went lean, with no change. Had an hour earlier to fiddle with tunerstudio and I managed to get it so it didnt lean out so much but the hesitation is still there although marginally its better.

I will leave the dizzy as it is I think, Id love to control that too but it will raise eyebrows MOT time.

I had the same issue (documented on here) with off-idle hesitation. i found you just need to keep playing AE to get a sweet spot. The problem that not enough is just as bad as too much. I actually swopped my gearbox from manual to auto which helped the most tbh as theres no need to blip.

Thanks for the comment there Mike, and so yeah, not wanting to leave this unresolved, I thought for the longest time that the MS2 unit was faulty. I fixed all sorts of minor issues that could have caused bad running, timing, plugs, checked wiring etc. Still acceleration enrichment wouldn't kick in, it would work once then not again for several seconds. I reduced the sensitivity (lag factor) which didnt work, tried different cables still no joy. In the end I took the TPS off wired it with a short cable right next to the MS2, turning the pot at exactly the same time as I bilpped the throttle, and to my surprise AE worked every time. I read somewhere that someone had used an XLR cable for the TPS with great results, I tried that and happily it worked well. Unfortunately just as I have been tuning it, the coil pack started failing, oddly the coil that does 1 and 6 only fires on 6 which would explain why doing the timing was a bit intermittent. Seen a new Lucas one (ERR6269)  on fleebay for 47 pounds... Sounds too cheap.
