Wiring Loom Connectors

My vehicle is a 1999 110 V8 Station Wagon. The engine installation was installed into a Td5 by the factory for export to Bolivia set up with LHD. The other day when checking around the starter motor I noticed that the engine wiring harness near the exhaust was looking a little bit the worse for wear from the heat in that area. I have tried sourcing a replacement, part no. YSB105880, without success. At the moment the harness is not giving any problems but I would like to pull it out eventually and replace any wiring that is past its sell by date. Rather than splice in repair sections I would like to replace complete runs. To do this I will need replacement pins and seals for the three connectors to the chassis looms. From what I have researched my understanding is that Land Rover made extensive use of Econoseal connectors and I have identified a source of replacement pins for that make of connector. I have attached a photograph of the three connectors to the harness and while the centre black connector looks like an Econoseal unit the outer grey and green ones do not match anything in the Econoseal catalogue. Any and all assistance appreciated!

The grey and green connectors are Sumitomo HW sealed series, the black one is a BMW (TE/AMP) 2.5mm sealed connector.

I can supply terminals and seals for the Sumitomo connectors, and will post the BMW part numbers for terminals and seals for the black connector.

         You are a gentleman and a scholar! I did a bit more checking this afternoon and have attached a few more photos. The black connector is clearly marked BMW and AMP. It is a four pin socket with the female socket attached to the engine harness. Two of the attached wires have an OD of 3.3 mm and the other two 1.5 mm. The Sumitomo connectors are both six pin with the male sockets on the engine harness as you stated. They have a total of eleven wires going in and out with OD's in the region of 1.9-2.0 mm. I want to do a bit more work before I start placing orders but I will certainly be in contact with you for the Sumitomo parts and if you could give me the part numbers for the pins and seals I would be obliged. I have a UK address that I can use for receiving shipments and I can make payments either by Visa or PayPal. I understand you sell as Land Rover Connectors on eBay. Is this your only outlet?

Having done a bit more research, which I should probably have done beforehand, I have found out that I have been going in the wrong direction. Checking in the Electrical Library I have discovered that the three connectors I thought were for the engine harness are in fact connections between the main harness and the chassis harness and are numbered C0377/C0391, C0378/C0392 and C0376/C0390. The connectors between the main harness and the engine harness are given as C0448/C0162 and C0449/C0203 and are 14 and 4 pins respectively. From the photographs in the Electrical Library the 4 pin connector looks like a BMW/AMP unit and the other connector is possibly a Sumitomo unit. Over the next few days I will check the installation on the truck and then post an update.

A UK address is good (and a lot cheaper!).

PayPal is my preferred way.

I do sell as LandRover-Connectors on eBay - but, dealing direct through the forum is easier and cheaper, as I don't have to factor in eBay's fees.

Yes, this one's the other way round, compared to all the others.

The 4-way connectors C0449/C0203 are the same BMW connectors as C0378/C0392 (the connector face diagram for the male connector shown in the Electrical Library is incorrect. It shows a male 2-way MQS connector, as used for central locking and heated seats on the 2002→ TD5 and, 2007→ TDCi Defenders).

The 14-way connectors are from the same Sumitomo HW Sealed Series as the 6-way connectors on the main harness/chassis harness.

You can't buy these connectors from TE/AMP or BMW under the part numbers moulded on the connectors.

The TE/AMP part numbers are "Restricted" - i.e., only available to authorised users.

The BMW part numbers supercede to "Zero" coded, or universal connectors, that will mate with all keyway codes - these are identified by their "Waterblue" colour.

The male 4-way connector is - 61 13 8 367 075
