Td5 Defender Vs Discovery PAS Pump

Recommended Posts

Can you swap the high pressure union on a Defender PAS pump onto a Discovery PAS pump?

Seems that the internet can't make its mind up on this one, so here's the answer.

I've now got one of each, and yes, the union simply undoes (an impact will help) and can be swapped between pumps.

This might help someone who's doing a Td5 conversion.

Check the orifice size, as that is is used to tune the assistance given by the PAS system - smaller =heavier, if it wasn't obvious, as it is a flow restriction.

The P38 style pump is the same.

Good point Bowie - will see if I have any suitable drill bits to measure it. I've been running a discovery outlet with a lashed up high pressure pipe for a couple of years so it'll be interesting to see if the defender outlet does give a change in steering assist.

Didn't manage to measure the orifice size, didn't have suitable drill bits - but steering feels seems to be much the same.

Photos below to show defender union size, both male and female parts.

I don't suppose you know the union size as I need to put a defender hose in a disco pump....

If you can't find a suitable adaptor (not sure if this is something specific to Land Rover) then buying a scrap Defender pump and switching over the unions is quick and easy.
