DEANO3528
Got a question from one of our club members for you all to discuss if you don't mind, First aired on our club forum: Hi guys, A quick question for those with Discos. My everyday vehicle is a TD5 auto Series II Disco. It has developed an unusual hollow-sounding grumble all of a sudden. This occurs between 2,500 - 3,000 rpm under load, just before the gearbox shifts gear. It sounds like a dry bearing or a propshaft that has no lubrication. No unusal performance otherwise. The noise continues after the change up but lessens afterwards. Reving the engine in neutral does not produce the same problem, but it is repeated in low or high box, in all gears, but does not seem to be roadspeed related. The obvious candidate is the gearbox. Any thoughts? The vehicle is serviced regularly and does do mild off roading in fields and tracks (not Newbourne). No unusal activity recently except a sudden failure of the air compressor for the suspension and this noise started immediately after the unit was replaced. 60,000 miles on the clock. Gearbox oil changed at the last service (four months ago) but going to drain it to see if there is anything nasty lurking in it. Given it is due to go on a run to the south of France with Cheryl and Callum in the next few weeks this is something I don't want hanging around so it is going into the garage for a look see. However, if any of you have had similar problems, can you advise please? Cheers Rob TIA peeps

BogMonster
I have seen some with a resonance in the exhaust under load which could probably be mistaken for a gearbox rumble - loose baffle in the exhaust I think.
