300TDi CSW wiring problem

Recommended Posts

I went to a broken down 300TDi CSW the other day - there was no live supply to the fuel cut-off switch on the inj pump.I converted it to mechanical start and stall for now. I checked a bit further this morning, thinking it might be the ignition switch, but the live supply enters and leaves the switch as it's supposed to. So the supply is being interrupted between the ignition and the switch. Can anyone tell me the route the wiring takes (and the colours if poss), between the ignition and the switch please, or if this is a known problem?

Les.

Les, is the solinoid itself OK? I've heard of them failing before.

IIRC my feed ('94 300tdi CSW) ran out of the dash and down the bulkhead along side the fuse box before heading into the engine compartment. I can't remember the colour, though.

Would the rest of the electrics - including the starter motor still work in that case?

There is the factory fitted immobilser, and the alarm does go off if you open the bonnet with it activated.

Les.

more than likely the spider immobiliser unit then Les, it's located in a riveted box in the battery compartment.

It contains 2 relays, one for the FIP solenoid and one for the starter, either a dry joint or the board is toast.

If it's toast, you can use AMR4956 which is a by-pass plug for the spider unit, it just plugs into the end of the loom (but then obviously you lose the immobilisation part of the alarm)

If you whip it out, give me a shout, i'll take the lid off of it and have a look.

you can buy a "better" unit to install instead of the spider, supposed to give more security: here

or bogmonsters tech on how to fix a discovery spider (same unit, just in a different place)

Ok, I looked inside the battery box today and there's a black box with a squillion wires going into it - held onto the panel by 4 x M6 screws, and then 6 x blind rivets holding the box together. After some minor cursing and almost surgical use of a hammer and punch, I got the thing apart. Only one unit in there, and the motor won't start without it plugged in. There's nothing that I can see wrong with, but then I'm not entirely sure what to look for. Had to re-fit it for now as they need to use the truck.

Jim - I can arrange for it to be here for a day if you still think you might be able to check if it's busted ot not?

Piccys for you alarm porn people.
