marsie Posted July 11, 2007 Share Posted July 11, 2007 How much backlash is acceptable on a defender transfer box(230).Was under mine today and found i had about 20mm of free play at the handbrake(outer edge) end before taking up the slack.I cant say i have ever noticed this before but then again i dont think i have ever looked .I have checked the oil for nasties but its clean,am i worrying too much??? You don't say how old your vehicle is, but if you are concerned about these things (and not already fitted), you can go down the preventative route of drilled input gear (xfer box) or an oil feed. Its a 1997 300tdi with 90000miles.The last 10000 have been rough use(winch challenges etc).Just wanted another opinion to put my mind at rest especially now the transfer box is the weakest link since fitting beefed up halfshafts/cvs etc. Paul Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
