GBMUD
Further to thinking about a building camping/overland/expedition trailer a couple of months ago, I now know what I want in/on it and I have finally got round to actually considering the construction of the beast. I wondered about some sort of self supporting sheet body with the strength effectively folded into the sheet metal, but with the weight me () and sandbag in a roof tent I want to consider some sort of supportive framework with sheet metal riveted onto the frame instead. Before I can consider starting the construction, I need to know how I am going to mount the roof tent onto the trailer. Is there a universal mounting solution? The only ones I have seen have been on Landrover type roofracks which is not much help to me in my application. How do they usually fit to other cars - do they often come with their own fitting kit or are they intended to fit onto some ladder bars or similar? Since I do not have a specific tent in mind yet, I would like to know if there is anything I should be building towards... Any advice, solutions or better yet, real world pictures and dimensions much appreciated. Thanks Chris
Happyoldgit
Chris, my Ezzi-Awn has lengths of extruded ally channel fixed underneath (two at the sides and one at the front IIRC) in which slide four captive bolts. The idea being that these secure to the roofrack or ladder bars with spreader plates and nuts.
