2007 Defender Land Rover Warranty

Ok, it's nearly up for its 12k service and I need to know whether I have to take it to Land Rover to keep the warranty valid. In the owners documentation that came with it there is a warranty booklet that only states that the vehicle has to be serviced according to Land Rovers service schedule and maintenance checklist. There is no mention that it has to be serviced at Land Rover. The reason I ask is because I want to take it to an independent specialist whom I know will do a better/cheaper job. Does anybody know what the score is on this, do I have to take it to Land Rover or not?

Cheers

You don't have to take it to a dealer and the warranty will still be honoured.

There are dealer benefits though. 1 example. If something goes wrong at 3years 3 months when the vehicle is out of warranty any problems that occur can sometimes be claimed through loyal customer type scence. If the vehicle has been serviced outside a dealer that will not happen.

Regards

Mark.

No you don't

Due to block exemption ruling which came into force in 2002, you are entitled to take your vehicle to any "competent " repairer, and so long as they follow "manufacturer-approved standards" the manufacturer has to honour the warranty conditions,

In fact, some makes have been "OK" with it for nearly 10 years,, Have yet to see any manufacturer's goodwill, when the warranty runs out,,

Yup, sometimes using genuine parts is required.

The Coastguard Hilux is sourced through a commercial vehicle leasing setup, originally they specified it should go to the Toyota garage, which is way off our response 'patch' (40 mins), the local garage is good, and only 5 mins away. they had to agree to use only toyota parts but got the official servicing contract.

Since that, my mother's Honda has been serviced there during the warranty period, again using genuine parts. The garage has a good relationship with the dealerships, they have no problem sourcing parts, and they're at good prices too. I think it definitely pays to find/stay with a good independant garage.
