freeagent
I'm having a few probs with the alarm/ immobiliser system on my 300TDi disco (see other thread) can I bin the lot? Ideally i'd like to keep the remote central locking, but i'd be quite happy to remove all traces of the alarm/ immobiliser system, as its getting pretty old now (10 years) and i don't really trust it... I use a 'disc-loc' which i do think offers a better deterant to thieves than some pretty basic electrics.. and having had a Td5 defender, with immobiliser and tracker fitted, stolen and never seen again, i'm not fussed about the alarm... so... has anyone else done it? is it easy to bin the lot? can i keep the remote central locking and scrap everything else? BogMonster
Locking is controlled by the alarm ECU I think, having said that my dad has an export spec 300Tdi which has central locking using the key in the drivers door, but no remote and no alarm/immob, so that should be possible, but I am not sure how it works. Pete Attryde
I have just binned the original alarm off mine and replaced it with this I had to add a couple of additional relays to run the central locking correctly (I even managed to get the courtesy light to come on when the doors un-lock). It took me about a day to get it all to work properly. As Bogmonster says the central locking is part of the alarm ecu (at least on my 1996 one).
