Traction Control light

Recommended Posts

I am having problems with my traction control, Well I think.

Every time I am going up a hill, and push it, the light for the traction control comes on, but stays on until I reduce the speed, 5-10 sek.

It is not like I am doing 40km Hr, I do try and take care of my car.

Is this normal.?

I don't know much about traction control, can someone give me a bit more info about it, please.

sounds like an issue, unless is it heavily loaded at the rear? are you towing? are you driving on a firm surface - ie tarmac?

Hi there

The car is not heavy loaded, and I am not towing.

It is only when I am off road I have seen it come on, and going up hills.

It has been doing it from the first day I have had the car.

What model are you driving?

If you do a search, you can find a info about how TC works - try this one for starters.

Your TC light shouldn't come on when you're on-road (although it sounds like it doesn't) and certainly shouldn't stay on, although it depends what off-roading you're doing.

It could either be just the light or a sensor actually triggering TC. If the TC was firing, you'd know about it. TC sounds like you're driving over a muffled cattle grid - it's a kind of metallic "BRRRRRRRGH" (all suggestions of how to spell this noise from those familiar with it welcome).

If you're driving on muddy or wet fields then it is entirely possible that your TC is working properly. Have you investigated whether it does it with the diff locked as well? Mine works studiously if I'm messing about in slippy conditions. Only comes on momentarily, though.

This is normal behaviour, going up hills offroad challenges the traction of the tyres, especially if you give it some throttle. Hence the TC does what it is supposed to do, getting you up the hill. The light simply indicates it is working. ;)

BTw, taking a car offroad from the first day you have it, way to go! :D

Thanks guys.

Looks like I dont have any problems, not always easy after driving Toyota for 20 years, and now a Land Rover.

But i must say I like the change.
