T-Rex
Guys im debating whether to convert a '97 V8/LPG auto into a diesel drinker..Its a very clean example but is this do-able or worthwhile and can the existing auto box be mated with a 300/200 tdi.......Any links.....Thkx Mike
BogMonster
Doubt it is cost effective to be honest, and you will apparently need to change stuff in the auto box to make it work properly as the shift points are different.
Comical Engineer
Doubt it is cost effective to be honest, and you will apparently need to change stuff in the auto box to make it work properly as the shift points are different. You're going to struggle with the shift points, also the overall gearing. The petrol engine revs to over 5000 rpm, whilst the diesel is limited to about 4000. If you REALLY wanted to convert then you'd probably want the engine & box from a diesel. I can't remember whether the overall gearing is different in the transfer box and diff. Someone will know. If it's a V8 with LPG then why bother changing? The overall cost of running will not be too far different. You might as well overhaul the V8 for the hassle of doing the conversion. jules
Yes you could go and buy a tdi with a shedy body and swap the engine and box together and it would work fine also if your do a little research you may find most of the electrics could also be interchanged. this would be the cheapest way as you will have everything you need to do the job. then sell the sheddy now V8 disco. I have swapped out loads of RRC V8 4.2 autos into old diesel Defenders and if you think about it a little before you start you will be supprised how many parts intercange between the Diesel and Petrols
