Phil
I'm short of a threaded rivet to fit a set of front lamp guards to my 110 and would like to use the same rivets to fix some chequer plate on top of the front wings. I'd also like to get a tool for fixing them as I had mixed success with the Heath Robinson approach the Genuine Parts lamp guard kit takes...due to my ineptitude I admit! I'd like to order the right rivets and a tool for fixing them, can anyone tell me what to order and where from? Thanks, Phil.
LandyManLuke
You want 'riv-nuts', or 'nut-serts', the tool for setting them is reasonably expensive, £30 upwards IIRC. google rivnut/riv-nut/rivnut/nutsert/nut-sert/nut sert etc for info. Hit the yellow pages for your local fittings & Fasteners place, speak to them and they'll know what you mean, regardless of the particular brand names. Steve Warman
I recently found a nutsert setting tool on ebay for about £15 delivered which has done quite well so far. I wouldn't want to do anything too heavy with it but it seems quite solid. I also found a guy who was selling 200 nutserts for £8.50 and they seem to be holding up ok. I've fitted them when re-attaching my mudflaps and they're still on.
Phil
Thanks, both, for your very helpful replies and the links! Anyone know what size the rivets for the lamp guard kit are? Cheers, Phil.
smo
Good luck using a tool like that for Rivnuts - i have a big £100+ jobbie with long handles and its still hard work on larger sizes, however if you are only doing one or two it wont matter. Phil
smo, thanks for the caution, I shan't be making heavy use of this so the cheaper tool is probably suitable. Phil.
