vinny
Fitted an old RRC rear axle to my 90 a few years back. The A frame ball joint keeps loosening where it joins the axle. Ive had to tighten the castle nut a few times and refit the split pin but it keeps comming loose. I fitted a new ball joint but the problem persists. I think the tapered hole has become oval and allows the joint to move. Has anybody a solution to this problem? New casing??
Scotian
have you tried a bit of thread lock? Super glue will do the job.
vinny
Dont think the nuts comming loose Its a castle nut and split pin arrangement! Or do you mean to use it on the tapered sholder?
paintman
If the nut appears loose - and as you say, if it has a split pin lock then the nut isn't backing off - it sounds like either the tapered hole is very worn or it is cracked & the taper pin is opening it up. You could cut it off & weld a good one on in its place if you don't want to replace the whole casing.

Why didnt I think of that I think thats the way to go rather than changing the casing/axle Cheers Paintman
