300 Tdi engine removal

Guys and Gals,

I have today struggled my little bits off getting the engine and box out of my scrapper Disco.

Its out but it seemed to take an age to do it. - aint it a big thing when you get it out on the floor on its own :o

Is there a butchers way of doing it?

I cut the front slam panel out and pulled the lot out the front.

Can it be dropped to the floor? it looked to me that the engine and alternator, turbo, etc etc wouldnt fit between the chassis rails if it was to be dropped down - is this correct?

Can any of the inner floor be cust away to make quick easy access to things?

Or even can the body be lifted off to expose the engine/gearbox assy and make for straight level lifting.

Both axles to do tomorrow now

Yours Mr. Knackered!

I've reclaimed a couple. easier if you remove do the following;

with rad removed and coolant pipes removed.

take out exhaust down to mid pipe

Take off propshafts.

disconect electrics and tie back to engine.

disconect fuel lines.

take out gearbox crossmember

cut or disconect tacho.

remove engine mount nuts.

connect lift to engine

lift and swing out engine + gear box.

You may need to cut a few other little things like reverse sensor light ect.

Jobs gone mornings work with loadall and gas axe/grinder.

Whipped the engine out of mine a few times to sort issues and can be done in a morning without too much hassel. Removing the steering box makes things easier tho
