You shouldn't need an engineers report but you will need to tell them it's a modified vehicle which may put a stop to things. Why not go for one of the more specialist companies?

I'm insured with Firebond which is now Footman James owned.

I rang them about my 1961 SII which I have just dropped a 200Tdi into and they simply asked how many horse power the engine was. Then after about 2 minutes I was paying the extra £18 for the remaining 10 months on the policy. No more than that job done Uk call centre and speaking to an English operator was a welcome and efficient change.
