nicks90
last night the better half pulled the d2 onto the drive with the back left suspension on the bumpstop methinks - 'bugger, popped air bag' so i take a gander underneath and find the ride height sensor is just hanging there in the wheel arch. The bottom third of the mount to the radius arm has snapped away!!! Its only when i looked closely did i realise its flippin plastic! WTF????? and the arm going from the mount vertically is basically flexible rubber stuff. WTF????? which penny pinching ????? designed this item? Surely it must have been cheaper to use metal? I know it doesnt have any real loads on it (arm can be moved up and down freely) but PLASTIC!!!! have they never heard of plastic perishing and getting stress fractures? Jayzuz christo! at least i got a temp bodge on it to get the thing working again. Placed the arm with the remaining 2/3rds of the mount back on the bolt on the radius arm and used a couple of jubilee clips to hold it in place. So unless the rubber arm snaps off, it aint coming loose again. Whilst i was at it, i did the same to the other side in case that mount is perished or about to fall to bits. stupid landrover - again! turned the engine on and up the bag pumped and its back to its normal self again. you dont get this with flippin nissan patrols or landcruisers! Ours did the very same thing but went right up.......ours were rubber and it had just snapped off...........so out with the cable ties and away we went. Got home the other day and both sides were sat on its backside.........and it wont go back up.......have to investigate next week when i get time. Not there best design thats for sure........might even fit the spring conversion but the SLS is very handy.
nicks90
i did a quick ring around for the spring converstion this morning - and paddocks etc have all got a 4 week waiting list before they can kits in! it would seem an awful lot of people are converting to coils at the moment and nowhere has stock........ q-rover
Same on the P38. I broke 3 rear sensors, but 2 were my fault as I went offroad after recallibrating the heights with the Arnott GenIII airbags. Extra flex and Bang, snapped sensor. But there not that expensive, and I have extended the arms now, so no more problems.
