Seems like I don't have a 90

After fitting the X-Eng X-arms I meant to get around to looking at the rear axle to make sure it was level at top and bottom spring carriers etc. The reason for this was that the QT arms were about 1cm longer than the standard LR arms that Si at X-Eng measured when he put his arms on his own 110. At the time I adjusted the X-arms to the same as the QT ones to keep everything the same.

So I started by measuring wheelbase on each side. Basically it was about 22mm longer on drivers side than the nearside. I measured the gaps between the front and rear radius mounts and drivers side was about 10-11mm further apart, which fits with extra long wheelbase on this side.

I need to now measure the whole chassis to check what it's like in the diagonals etc to make sure it is straight, but assuming it is, has anyone else had such a difference in arm mounts position?? Now explains why I could never get the tracking quite right.:rolleyes: But maybe I'm wrong to assume it just that the mounts have been put on in the wrong position and it could be the chassis.

Also what are suggestions on what to do? 90 Defender ;) is 20 days outside it's 3 year warranty, but seeing as this is could be a defect from manufacture it doesn't really matter. Maybe I should ask for a new one ;);););)

Cheers

You would assume that if it went to the stealers that day they would of checked the rear geometry before declaring it fit and giving it back to the customer after it had been hit hard up the rear

Anything to do with the Astra (IIRC) incident on the A358?

I thought of that but the side where the Astra smacked into the back and bent the radius arm is the side where the mounts are actually wider apart, so I don't think so.

You would, then reality hits and you remember that they are not that dilligent normally. ;);) And I wouldn't put much to the insurance engineer's assesment as he missed the damage to the rear cross member until I pointed it out.

I could measure up the chassis, but frankly unless I know the tolerances that LR use it's pretty useless data. I think I'll book it in for dealers to have a look at and see what they say. And when, as I expect, they say it's fine and within LR tolerances I'll have them provide all the documented data to prove it.

Cheers
