renault4
I am about to replace my clutch and have read that I should use molybdenum disulphide grease on the lever pivot, the slipper pads and the release bearing carrier. Is this a special grease (and therefore neccesary) or will normal lithium grease do?
western
Defender workshop manual says molybdenum disulphide grease on the release bearing slide tube, only a very thin smear though otherwise it could get onto the friction plate surface. cipx2
I think there's a bit of a misunderstanding here about grease. What LR says, "molybdenum disulphide grease", means a grease that contains molybdenum disulphide (MD). This MD is a solid lubricant, more on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Molybdenum_disulfide Generally speaking, a grease, same as oils, has a base and then it has additives. One of the additives can be (in this case must be) MD. So, what LR says is this: use any grease which has MD as an additive. Lithium grease means a grease with a lithium base, which can have numerous additives, including MD, more on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lithium-based_grease renault4, if your Lithium grease contains MD then it's good to go. Check what is says on the tin or search the manufacturer's site for its tech sheet.
