Radiator leak

Recommended Posts

Hi all. Having put the old girl (3.5 V8) back together with new cam and timing gear etc. etc. etc. the radiator has now decided to weep from the bottom. F*"@ing thing. Is this normal after disturbing it? It looked absolutely fine when it was out. I suppose I need a new one?!

I thought I'd given the old girl a real treat with all the new parts and careful cleaning... now this! I do love this car but it does persist in repeatedly kicking me in the b@ll@ocks

Are those coolant pipe clamps any good for clamping the, er, coolant pipes if and when I do decide to do it? The ones that pinch the pipe so you can disconnect without draining all the coolant. I REALLY don't want to be draining all the coolant again. Though I guess most of it is in the rad anyway.

Cheers

David

You could try kalimex K-Seal http://www.kalimex.co.uk

But if its an old rad or a big leak then a new rad is the best solution

Recently fitted one to mine £119 incl £10 delivery - very quick delivery & very well wrapped - from http://www.aaronradiator.co.uk

Never tried a coolant clamp but it will be easier to drain it as there's lots in the rad.

Cheers for that guys. I guess if I aim the coolant into my nice clean bucket from B&Q I can re-use it. Just such a pain in the arse!!! Definitely an old rad. Got all the receipts and it's not been replaced ever so I guess i'll be spanking the credit card AGAIN in the name of landrover. All good fun though!

Get yellow pages out.

Find a local to you radiator repair/recore place.

If it's saveable it'll be way cheaper than a new one. Last time I looked the list price for a RaRo rad, 1982 3.5l Auto was over a grand!

Always worth considering.

My new one from the place in the link was £119 delivered. Cheapest quote - and I am trade - from the local reconditioners to recore mine was £175 plus VAT.
