Oh Dear! what a halfshaft mess..!!

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Just set about swapping over the drums for disc on my 110 1998 inc axle swap...

I have stripped the drums, back plates...etc... off of the drum braked axle..

The halfshafts are differents lengths by 25mm.

The Td5 halfshafts won't go in the drum braked axle because the of the raised oilseal surface.. is there a halfshaft available that doen't have the raised area or do I shall it turned down on a lath...?

If I run the longer drum axle halfshafts then I believe they interfer with the alloy wheel centres...?

Also if I run without the oil seal, the bearings are lubricated by oil instead of grease..is this right???

One more question... the stub axle are different lengths too, and there is a lot of play to be taken up to set wheel bearing play, are there very thick spacer on offer to allow for this or am I missing the obvious...?

Thanks in advance

Dave

Ok, makes more sense now, just use the disc/hub/stub axles/calipersshafts & even the diff assmbly from the Td5 axle.

si in effect it's just a axle casing change.

Hi Ralph,

I have a silly question then... is there such an axle where the stubs axle parts, are part of the axle housing..?

because I've undone all the bolts and clumped it with a copper mallet and they seem to be solid..

Don't mind a bright red face if I'm missing something here..

cheers

get a bigger hammer  all Salisbury rear axles have replaceable stub axle ends, if all the bolts are removed it should come off eventually.
