Landowner
Hey, just popped in to say hello as I've bought an old land Rover and will be in need of help before long I'm sure. One or two problems already but the main one at the moment is a lot of backlash in the front diff. The model is a 110 defender 1984 V8 and I'm informed that is is a ten spline diff but don't know the ratio. I presume that I will need to know if I want to buy the correct one. Any help appreciated. Would that be in Nottingham? I've just been looking at one on fleabay and it looks good for the price as I've been quoted near 300 squid at my local Landy spares outlet and they are

western
I use my 110 for motorsport recovery & remove cars from forest tracks without any problem, so I reckon you would be fine sticking with the 10 spline units, talk to Steve @ crowndiffs I'm sure he will advise. Matt Neale
You'll find that - with the exception of a couple of specialist military applications - Defender, Disco and Range Rover Classic all have 3.54:1 diffs. All the early stuff (up until around 1992/3 I think) ran with 10 spline axles as well. You ought to be able to pick up a decent second hand diff for around £50 - £75 if you shop around - why shell out £300 if you don't have to? My own 110 is an '89 and is still on the original axles at 230,000 miles - mostly running close to the GVW and/or towing, so I'm happy with the strength pf the standard 10 spline setup. Just a thought.. Matt
6cyltdi
Always got spare diffs kicking about.... £50 a pop... I'm situated approx 25 miles east of inverness........ Series £30 or defender £50, might have 1 24 spline someware.....

Just a thought.. Matt Located a recon diff for 139 quid outright, no exchange so I'm thinking it's not worth risking a used one. Mine's an '84 and not sure of the mileage but there is a LOT of play in the diff, about 25+ degrees There's one on fleabay at 20 quid so I might risk 40 (as he says it is good) before I commit to a recon one. Always got spare diffs kicking about.... £50 a pop... I'm situated approx 25 miles east of inverness........ Series £30 or defender £50, might have 1 24 spline someware..... Inverness ....That's a long way up from here . But thanks for the offer
