bushwhacker
Help I have 2 VM engines can anyone please explain to me what to look for to tell which is the 2.4 and which is the 2.5? One is attached to a four speed box in a Lightweight, would it have needed a conversion plate to do this? This engine is knackerd. Will the other VM have the exact same bolt configuration to bolt onto the four speed box if one engine is a 2.4 and one is a 2.5? Should the VM engines have separate intercoolers ala 200tdi? The other is on the floor waiting on me getting my finger out. Thanks

JimAttrill
I think the best way to tell the difference is by the engine number. Maybe somewhere on the internet will be a list.
bushwhacker
Thanks that sounds like a good place to start Mark
JimAttrill
I do remember seeing an engine number prefix or suffix list in LRE or LRM, though the chances of finding it are very slim as I have years worth of mags.
JimAttrill
How about this? 2400 TD VM engines begin 11A, followed by a serial no. 2500TD VM engines begin 95A, followed by a serial no. From the Rimmer Bros web site
taurion
To save digging for engine numbers: 2.4 VM has the vacuum pump on top of the timing gear just above the fuel pump. got one in a RR. 2.5 VM has vac pump buried in the block behind the timing gears, i.e. engine looks different externally.
