Nick Boy Posted January 25, 2006 Share Posted January 25, 2006 Hello, I was browsing the net for ideas on storage for my expedition, and stumbled across this, I hadn't really thought of trailers before, but this looks the muts nuts, and it would seem to match our wolf with the name and the lockers on the side, has anyone had any experience with these people/ their product. I'll be dealing with the UK importer. Is it as good as it looks/ is claimed to be? Or are they too much hassle for a big expedition? Desert Wolf Trailers I'd probably paint it gold. Light years ahead of whsat you buy here. Only buy a leaf sprung trailer.Nothing else will stand the roads. Would you like more pointers to SA stuff? Would you like more pointers to SA stuff? Information on Fridges if you have any suggestions, trying to pay for as little as possible, its surprising how much people give you when you say that you may appear in land rover magazines and tv sporting their logo! I cannot remember their company name, no doubt someone with a good memory will be along soon. Seemed ideal with all the cooking / washing / fridges in the trailer leaving the tow vehicle for people and clothing. I would disagree with taking a leaf sprung trailer behind a coil sprung Defender. If the springs on the 110 could be the same as the trailer you would need less spares? But on the other hand you can always get a local to bash you a new leaf. Hopefully, we shouldn't be needing new springs, but thanks for the suggestion, I had already thought of it as a useful place to store spare tyres, and I really like the idea of having a rooftent on the trailer. We chose our wolf because the idea was it would stand up to much more abuse than a standard defender or camel trophy vehicle. The Wolf wheels added to that, don't suppose anyone knows where/ how to get more if we need them? ours were included in the truck with 2 spares already. I had it repaired at their works in Cape Town.Then again by their agent in Windheok[sp].First time the black box was renewed the second the electronic control panel.This fridge also needs space around the fridge for air flow. There's also National Lunar to consider again they use an electronic push type control panel that on the ones I have seen are mounted low down. Weaco[sp] This was the company that had made the black box for my Minus40.A new boy on the block in 2004. Engel. Made in Japan.A variety of models.They can be had with a mounting plate that you can unlock the fridge from to lift out.You can also buy a cover for them so no air space AFAIK. They still come with a turn knob for the theromstat. What a lot of people do is to turn the fridge to maximum when running the vehicle.Then turn the thermostat to minimum for overnight. I suggest you try to get to one of the shows and have a good rake about and ask a lot of questions about everything. Storage boxes. I use Wolf boxes from South Africa.Very expensive over here. Have a look in Staples the office store.They had some nice looking ones in last time I was in.All at a sensable price. Also If you nip over to www.lro.com go to the adventure board.I've posted a full spares list that I carried.The list may be of some use to you. I don't know your mechanical ability so please don't think I'm teaching you to suck eggs !! Take a workshop manual. I could have done with one for the Mecedes G-Wagon that I repared in Namibia. Also if your not sure of doing brake and clutch cylinder repairs with just rubbers.Take the complets CORRECT unit.Again from the G-Wagen.They had a spare clutch master cylinder repair kit.It was the wrong one for that model !!! You could make a custom sized fridge to suit whatever available space you have Not a Desert Wolf but, One like this Peter Thanks Guys, I'll definitely follow the advice on looking into making my own, problem is, I want something that is pretty garaunteed to keep working, thats why I'm buying a GPS as opposed to making one, (no its not black magic). Possibly that trailer is a tad expensive for a second hand one, but I'll keep an eye on it, and if it looks like not selling, I'll offer a lower price. That way you get a reliable trailer and the rest is as reliable as you make it/the bits you put into it. Making your own you get exactly what you want and not someone elses idea of what you want. I have also been looking at the Sankey Trailers, are they up to the job, knowing that the MOD don't let anything go unless it has been abused by a whole batallion of squaddies and driven over a land mine. (of course at £500 I could spend £2000 and replace a lot of it with what I want.) do you think its up to the job? NATO hitch is ideal as we have one on the wolf. Petergg really keen on that trailer on e-bay, your not hoping to bid on it are you. don't want to drive up the price between the two of us!
