Tyre sizes (again I'm sure)

Hi All,

I'm sorry if this has been done to death, but I'm struggling to find a thread with a simple enough reply to satify my small brain!

Got a defender 90 pickup that is used to commute (20 miles per day, all on motorway) and to off road (pay and play/laning). The tyres on it need changing really as they have quite a lot of cracking etc.

I'd like to go BFG MT, but I'm not rich enough for that so I'm planning to go Insa Dakar - what are peoples thoughts on these?

Now onto sizing, the truck has 225 on it now but I quite fancy 265/75/16s (fills the gaps well), but how are these in mud, are thinner or thicker tyres better?

225/75r16 would be 225mm wide then to get the height you divide 225 by 100 and multiply by the 75 which gives you the profile of 168.75mm so overall tyre height is 168.75mm multiplied by two plus the rim height

so 16" is 406.4mm plus 337.5mm is 743.9mm which makes it 29.28" tall and 225mm wide which is 8.85" wide

Just apply the same idea for the other sizes to get the dimensions you require.

The Dakar is a pretty good tyre for the money, I had a set of 265/75r16's on a disco which seen well over 20,000 miles and were sold on after that.

Go for them???
