moose
Afternoon, Quick question i have just dropped a in a 200 tdi into what was a NA diesel. at the same time the bulk head was changed so now got round to wiring everything up. I got the engine to start no problems. But i am not getting any battery charge light on the dash but the battery is charging at 14 and bit volts. I have tested the continuity (which was ok) of the wire from the back of the dash all the way back to the alternator on the b terminal Should i see a voltage on this wire (using a multimeter) ? also tested the warning light bulb which was ok too. thanks for any Input

markyboy
Afternoon,Should i see a voltage on this wire (using a multimeter) ? With the ignition on and the engine running, yes, you should see battery voltage. This is the "exciter wire" which "excites" the coils in the alternator. If you haven't got battery voltage with the ignition on I don't know how it can be charging, then again I'm no auto electrician....... Mark SO I should be seeing 12volts on the exciter wire at the dash with the ignition on but the engine off?
markyboy
SO I should be seeing 12volts on the exciter wire at the dash with the ignition on but the engine off? You can check it at the dash or at the back of the alternator.
