Landowner
The auto box on my 1990 V8 bangs into reverse and I was wondering what was the cause as it didn't do it a couple of weeks ago when I bought it. The props are sound and there is not much slop in the transmision so what do you think? Ta
LittleBlue88
Sounds like stretched drive chain in the transfer box,the bang is it slipping over the gears
Landowner
Sounds like stretched drive chain in the transfer box,the bang is it slipping over the gears That makes sense as it is worse when it's hot as the chain would be longer it's not the auto box then? And how difficult is it to fit a new chain, not a box out I hope
David Wright
Deeply regret but a chain replacement is a complete transfer box rebuild as while it is in bits you may as well replace all the bearings and probably the main shaft
