Aragorn
Anyone removed the mid-silencer from a disco V8? Considering removing it to unleash a little more of that V8 growl, but i dont want it to end up deafening... Cheers
Bowie69
My first rangie had a piece of pipe welded in place of the original middle box, and the standard back box still in place.... it was WAY too much, sort of snorting spitting angry animal, I would definitely not recommend it. If you are after a bit more noise, just remove the back box, it improves the sound without being wearisome. I know some people have replaced the middle box with a second back box with a very V8 like sound, but personally I think(without hearing it in RL) it would be too much for a frequently used vehicle. Aragorn
Seen as its an offroad toy, a snarling spitting angry animal might just suit it nicely! I'll maybe give it a try and see how it sounds, the backbox has two tailpipes on the exit, so wouldnt be very easy to put that in the middle. Other option might be to swap the middle box for a smaller box. I have a resonator box i pulled off an old mazda V6 that might go in the gap and provide some inbetween level of noise! Bowie69
Ah, the backbox I was referring to was from a later Rangie, they are single exit
Aragorn
Ye i think the later disco ones are single too. Mines a very early carb model. I'll have a play with the welding torch next weekend me thinks
Henry Webster
My racing Discovery has no centre box, personally would be too much for me as a daily driver, but it does mean that spectators are now a little less likely to step out in front of us! These two vids might give you an idea.
audiman
awesome vids my back box has been removed on my v8 think it may of been rotten its a bit too noisy for me but mine is being used as a part time dd am thinking may do a side exit exhaust as the pipe is about 3 foot away from the the end of the Disco and if the pipe exits outside cabin space then may be a bit quieter inside but thats only what i am thinking of doing cheers Lee
