nickjaxe
Hi all been putting a new timing belt on my 1993 disco 200tdi today, my engine has an idler as well as the tensioner but looking in the tech section on here and my workshop manual most engines seem not to have an idler why is this anybody know. lrfarmer
both mine have an idler and my last one did
cipx2
The 12L 200tdi engines fitted to Discovery have an idler whereas the 11L 200tdi engines fitted to Defender don't. Both 200tdi cambelt change threads in the tech archive are about the 11L engine (with no idler).
nickjaxe
Ok I see, I wonder if the tension setting for the 200tdi with the idler is the same as the one without, the figs I have are 19nm for a new belt 17nm for an old belt. cipx2
Yes, the tension is the same. 18-20 Nm for a new belt and 16-18 for a used one
nickjaxe
Thanks mate, I wonder why they only fitted them to Discovery versions any idea. Nick.
western
probably due to the different design of timing case/gears in Discovery version of the 200Tdi to the Defender version
