disco_al
Already tried the search, but couldn't find a definitive answer. Other than power loss, how could i tell if a lift pump is faulty? When priming the fuel system there is no resistance from the lever at all, fuel still reaches the filter ok though. So, what other symptoms would a faulty lift pump give? Les Henson
The foot of the lift pump might be on the lobe of the cam, so turn the engine 180-degrees and try it again. If you just want to know if the pump is working, disconnect the fuel cut-off switch, disconnect the pipe from the pump to the filter and then crank the engine. You should get quite a powerful squirt of fuel from the pump. Les.
stageonesimmo
You'll also possibly get a damp patch under the lift-pump and can sometimes actually see fuel spray coming from the atmospheric pressure hole in the base of the pump just below where the diaphragm lives - this points to a shot diaphragm. Also the pipes can work-harden over time and the movement in them caused by the engine rocking can loosen the brass olive so it allows air past between it and the pipe - give the unions a good tighten to rule that out........ sargejnr
i was told when i thought mine was gone that if you take the fuel filter off and its half full then ur lift pump has gone, if its full then its ok
Les Henson
That would imply air getting into the system, which may not be the lift pump. Top end revs is the usual indicator. Les.
