big ives Posted October 7, 2009 Posted October 7, 2009 Hello i have found information on this forum on how to wire in the trailer 12N electrics on my Disco 2 TD5 the connection is behind the r/h rear light cluster so that should be no problem. But where can i wire in the 12S socket for my caravan? is there another connection somewhere at the rear of the disco? maybe someone else has carried out this wiring and point me to the easiest way to connect the 12S socket outlet? many thanks Quote
MartinK Posted October 7, 2009 Posted October 7, 2009 General advice seems to be the adoption of a smartcom box and wiring kit. Kits & Smartcom here: http://www.towsure.com/category/6458-Universal_Wiring_Kits Wiring diagram here: http://www.westerntowing.co.uk/acatalog/Caravan_12S_wiring_diagram.html You can mount the smartcom bos near the r/h light cluster where the N type outlet is... When you get it sorted, it would be great to hear your story/findings. Quote
MartinK Posted October 7, 2009 Posted October 7, 2009 THere seems to be some dedicated kits available for the TD5: http://www.just-tow.co.uk/land-rover-discover-ii-td5-19982004-7-pin-dedicated-plug-in-electric-towbar-wiring-kit.html Quote
MrKev Posted October 7, 2009 Posted October 7, 2009 If you get one of those voltage sensing relays, then you only need to run one chunky cable (>4mm²) up to the battery, and everything else wires into the gizmo, or chassis earth. I found a suitable earth bond around behind the RH light cluster, and plenty of opportunity to run cables through the floor. Here are some, neither look like the one I bought from Towsure. http://www.towsure.com/product/2973-Self-Switching_Combination_Relay_Wiring_Kit http://www.towsure.com/product/428-Solid-State_Combination_Relay_Wiring_Kit The one I bought was a small box, with about 6 screw terminals at one end, and covered with a white sticker. I think it had a pot to adjest the threshold if needed, and I've installed one in each of my cars, and they seem to work well. They work by only supplying battery voltage to the caravan lights when the engine is off, and sensing the increased voltage sue to the alternator running, and switching on the feed to the fridge and to charge the battery. Hope this helps. Quote
