Engine problems

:( Its a 300tdi Defender and from last week on a 400 mile trip the engine has started smoking , billowing out at low revs, as you put your foot down to accellerate, and shes started to run on after switching off the ignition for about 6secs ,then cuts out. she also runs badly under 800rpms. Whats the verdict, be gentle.

Possibly the head gasket, take the oil cap off the engine and look inside the cap, if theres white creamy stuff in it, it'll be the head gasket. :(

they don't always go straight away, sometimes it's just one bit, but it will all go eventually, usually at the worst possible time!

but hopefully i'm wrong and someone far more knowledgeable will correct me.... :)

That engine chart was what I was after, thought there was one on Rave, but if there was I couldn't find it, could be injectors, I've got a leak on 1no at fuel pipe and 3no at engine and timing,

but I want to do the timing belt as well, looks like I'm paying money out either way.

cheers men

Fixed my injector pipe leak, adjusted cold start , changed the oil again, after 500miles, she was running half normal/half semi synthetic, just cos it had been lying around and gave her an engine flush and now she is running like a dream(hope she doesn't wake up ) ,still need to change stop solenoid, big thank you to all repiled

cheers Brian
