muddychris300tdi
Hi there, on my 300tdi dico my glow plugs were taking quite a while to warm up so i decided to change them. The front and back came out easy but the middle two don't want to come out. The back one of the pair as unscrewed but now i carn't pull it out and the front one of the pair just wont undo is there any tips to get them out, all help would be greatfully received. Chris. mike4444244
May help if you run the engine up to temp first then try them, or put some diesel/wd40 etc on them for a bit, be careful forcing them though I had one come out minus the heating element bit once - meant the head had to come off Mike
muddychris300tdi
Thanks, the engine warm as I had just come back from buying the plugs. I've covered them in wd40 and i'm going to give them half an hour to see if that helps. Chris
ciderman
Did a set on a Puma engine this morning , No.3 Was determined not to come out after a lengthy undoing procces, So a grip and pull with mole grips soon had it out . As already mentioned , Engine upto temp and plenty of release agent .
muddychris300tdi
Well I've gone and done it now haven't I. The one that was unscrewed came out ok but then i went and snapped the other one. Just rang the local diesel garage and the should be able to get it out, Thursday at the earliest. Chris
ajh
In the future cold-shock them after first soaking, then heating the head. You can get it in cans, rapidly cool the plug while the head is still hot (do not overdo it and crack the head.... unlikely but thought I would mention it. ) then use an impact wrench on low-torque to bang at them a bit lightly to jar the threads and get some movement.
