While Defenders parked up at Farnborough airfield?

A friend has just told be that while driving past the security fencing at Farnborough airport, he saw "literally hundreds" of white 110 Landrovers parked up.

He didn't see any marking but guessed they are either destined for the UN or the Red Cross.

After a bit of research, it seems that Conrico are based down the road in Chertsey, so it may be something to do with them.

My guess is that some form of heavy aircraft (Antanov?) will soon be making an appearance at Farnborough to whisk the Defenders off to Haiti.

The way things seem to be going there, I can see the UN performing "peace keeping" duties in the not too distant future.

Then again I may be completely wrong and Landrover may have just rented a corner of the airfield to store them.

Anyone know any more info about these?

My friend back home in South Africa is the Transport Manager for a large transport company, whose biggest contract is the UN. He told me when I was last home that the UN favour Toyota Land Cruisers to Land Rovers. Last year they shipped 180 LC's and only 12 LR's into Central Africa from South Africa.

there is a land rover dealer whose names escapes just south of Guildford near Godalming who specialise in ROW (rest of world) spec landys, mostly white for obvious reasons, not a million miles from Farnbough.

Guava that is the dealer, there used to be hundreds of landys at Southampton docks, have not been there for while, I spent a whole summer there 20 years working and try to work out a way of getting one out! They would never notice!!! The plan never got passed the ideas stage.

As someone said they've been there for ages. That bit of land is leased out to the local main dealers to store their vehciles on - for a very long time it was the local ford dealers cos it was full of Fords for years, but changed to landrovers a year or two back. From time to time they do come and go on transporters.
