will4x4
Hi, I am about to buy a discovery 2 for my wife and wondered if you could give me some advice as to what to look for: i.e pro's and cons. I am fairly mechanically minded but want to ensure it is a reliable car as we are selling a 2007 car to buy this. From looking around between 6-8k you can get a disco 2 ES with cream leather seats ideally which is between a 2001-2003 with 50k-70k on the clock. Is there anything i want done at this age or needs replacing? How reliable are they? Thanks Will

Problem areas are probably air suspension, ACE/TC faults, flywheel wear, oil leaks, chassis rust, but in your price range I would expect to find something pretty tidy and fault free. When I bought mine 3 years ago (like buying a 2002 now) it had 110k on the clock, full dealer service history and was pretty much damage/fault/mark free. It's never let me down in 3 years and 50k, the only non-service items I've had go wrong are: ACE pump (removed using a tree off-road) Rear shocks replaced Brake discs/pads replaced all round Ignition lock replaced (wore out!) Transfer box input seal leaking Rear diff input seal leaking Flywheel 'whurring' due to wear
nicks90
as above, 8k should get a good one, we spent the same on a 2000 plate ES a 3 years ago and it has been relatively fault free. As with any LR you will expect some issues to crop up. Ours runs to:- fuel pressure regulator O ring leaked diesel front heated screen let the 'smoke out' of the wiring whine from tranny box (now on 130k, so i'll let it off) rear shocks both rear bags (again 130k aint bad really) disks and pads (they go through brakes V quickly) leaky sunroof. overall its a great motor, easily the best in its class - just let down by the usual LR build quality.
