R Bates
I've recently bought 4.6 hse p38 thats been standing unused for a while, The engine runs nice and smooth when warm but wont tickover and has to be held on the throttle to stop it stalling,it also stinks of petrol like its over fueling and throws black watery soot out of the exhaust. Has anyone had any experience with any of these problems before as i dont realy know where to start to try and sort it out. I've got very little experence of v8 engines and the management systems so any help appreciated!

Seems to me the idle valve does not work - most likely stuck in the closed position - and therefore does not allow air when at idle and too little air creeps past the butterfly.
