seth's dad
evening all, looking for some advice on removing a rounded off bolt on the bottom crank pulley, just bought a 200tdi to covert my 19j 110 and it looks like somebodys been there before me and knackered the bolt right up. would welding another bolt onto this be the best option, any ideas welcome
hobson
How badly rounded is it? there are a few things to try: try and whack a slightly smaller socket onto the nut, try a a/f size, they usually work out a touch smaller than metric. and use a big breaker bar/drift to get good leverage. if it's really round, carefully grind the edges flat(ter) and try the above. failng those, try welding a nut or something else on the end to enable getting some leverage. i'm sure others will be along with more ideas too... Spearos
I think welding a large nut onto it is your best bet, however these have a reputation for sometimes being ever so tight so I guess whoever welds the nut will have to do a 'proper job'. Good luck!
matthew74
I bought some of these: http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/details/5-piece-bolt-grip-set Very useful for rounded bolts.
hoss1720
heat ,heat and more heat. Then wack a smaller socket on it and use a decent breaker bar,
